    The lotuses are in full bloom at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens so it’s time for the annual Bicycle Fun Club ride to gawk and take lots of pretty pictures. This year’s ride will be in partnership with the Daily Rider bike shop on H St NE in DC. We’ll gather at Solid State Books next door to the Daily Rider. They have coffee and some cafe type food and are a great independent book store. We’ll enjoy the lotus blooms for an hour and ride back to H St to have some tacos for lunch at Chupacabra (http://www.chupacabradc.com) and then stop by the Daily Rider on our way out to say hi to Loren.

    The ride is no drop.

    What: Bicycle Fun Club Ride to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens for the Lotus Blooms
    When: Sunday, July 7th, gather at 9 a.m. with a 9:30 roll out
    Start: Solid State Books, 600F H St NE, Washington DC 20002
    Route: It’s an easy 5 miles to the Gardens, mostly on the Anacostia River Trail

    Things to know:
    The Aquatic Gardens are located right off the Anacostia River Trail
    The path to the Aquatic gardens is a mix of gravel, grass and dirt with some roots. You will be able to navigate it on a road bike.
    Bring a lock. A cable lock should do. Bike riding is prohibited within the gardens. There are bountiful new racks in the Gardens that are wonderful.

    Count me in–this is my neighborhood and my default weekend ride (though I usually extend it a bit).

    Contemplating it, and should know by Friday afternoon if I can make it.
    Haven’t been there in several years; used to go yearly with all my camera gear and spend the whole morning photographing the amazing flowers…

    Hey right in my hood! I’ll probably drop in for this even if I’m already going to the Gardens on Wednesday to check the flowers out and I’ve (unfortunately) been to Daily Rider too many times in the past few weeks with bike issues.

    Oh wow! These are great photos. They really capture how beautiful the gardens are. Hope you’ll be able to make it.

    UPDATE: As an extra special bonus, a board member from the Friends of the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens will be joining us to provide some bonus content once we arrive.

    Thanks, Judd! The red one was shot on my first-ever visit to the gardens — I remember thinking how lucky I was to find any remaining dew in the growing heat! — But later I saw another photographer with a squirt bottle, spritzing the blooms before photographing them close-up ;)

    Haha! My long ride usually ends at Vigilante in Hyattsville but I sometimes stretch it a bit more. Social time sounds good!

    Sept 28th National Public Lands Day – 9 a.m. to noon
    October 26th Saturday Volunteer Event – 9 a.m. to noon

    Lily Ponds Live! Concert Series
    August 10th from 5-7 p.m.
    October 5th from 3-5 p.m.
