    There are a lot of branches on the trail due to the high winds the last two days, but just north of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, there’s a large tree completely crossing the trail. I took a picture and am sending it to the superattendant for trail maintenance, but with the shut down, I’m not sure when they’ll get to it.

    If NPS has enough resources to continually put up tape and now steel bars and have NPS Police loiter around to keep people out of Hains Point, then they can handle this.

    Can someone post if it’s still there around 4:00ish tomorrow? Hard to tell from the picture but I think I can move it off the trail without bringing any tools.

    Seriously, those things are awesome. We carry one with us when mountain biking and it will cut through an 8″ diameter tree in less than 10 minutes with only one person. We often switch off every couple of minutes and it goes much faster.

    Damn, that thing looks like it would also be good for decapitating bridge trolls … should the need ever arise.

    Tree was still blocking the trail this morning.

    However, with help from Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail, BPAC and a passing cyclist, the path was improved, but still dangerous. Even with several (old) hands, the tree could not be cleared from the trail.

    Caution tape was donated by the Donahue Construction company to make the blockage more visible.

    City staff was also contacted to see if the city could help out.
