FS coffee lovers, FS Diaspora Riders,

In coordination with chuxtr, I invite you to take part in this new Pointless Prize: Out-Of-Bounds Coffee Rides! OOB Coffee will ONLY award points for coffee rides NOT in the DMV. The rules are quite similar and appear below, it before you look down– YES, you can double count rides in both OOB and the Local area pointless prize contests according to our rules. Every registered FS rider is invited to play; just get thee out of the tri-state area!

    1. The object is to visit as many DIFFERENT NON-LOCAL, i.e., anywhere outside the DMV, coffee places as possible (on your bike, a borrowed bike, or a bikeshare ride, of course!). But once you visit one place, that’s it. A second visit to the same venue doesn’t count.

    2. Starbucks is verboten. But other chains, e.g., Peet’s, Cosi, Tschibo, Jakob’s, etc., are fair game. However once you visit one chain outlet, that’s it. A visit to the same outlet but at a different location doesn’t count. Sticking with chuxtr’s arbitrary Starbucks ban for simplicity. My prize, so my rules.

    3. “Swamp” coffee, e.g., 7-Eleven, Wawa, Schnell Imbiss, Tschibo, etc., is OK but subject to the same conditions as in #2 above.

    4. Bakeries, restaurants, and even fast food joints that serve coffee are also OK but subject to the same conditions as in #2 above.

    5. For your ride to count, use #FS2019OOBcoffeeride in your Strava ride title and include the name of the place you visited, e.g., #FS2019OOBcoffeeride Backerei Carlotta. Not required, but encouraged, is to also post pics on your Strava. And if you want to post your Strava ride link and pics on this thread for all to see, that would be fun too (but not required).

    6. The winner will be whoever has visited the most DIFFERENT OOB coffee places.

    7. A second prize will be awarded to the OOBCoffee rider posting from the most diverse locations, i.e Germany, India, Chicago, Seattle, Montreal, and Brazil.

    8. If needed, the second tie breaker will be whoever has included the most doughnuts in their rides, as verified with photos on the Strava link. Hm, this may become a separate prize category.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Get your caffeine game on! Book your flights! Rise up all yee in the Great Freezing Saddles Diaspora!

#FS2019OOBcoffeeride #3. I rode my Salsa Pistola to get some road miles in before the temperature drops next week. I stopped at the Bäckerei Moos in Rosbach vor der Höhe for lunch with a brie and tomato roll, coffee crema, and a plunder mit pudding.

#FS2019OOBcoffeeride #5. This time pastry and coffee were from different places. I stopped by the Consulate thinking of a long ride, but was having rear brake pad issues that I couldn’t adjust on the fly, so I decided to stop by my local Fahrradwerkstatt for an appointment to get them looked at (how I miss Bikenetic where they would generally put the bike on the stand for something like this instead of giving me an appointment for eight days later :( ). I got there about five minutes before they opened, so I rode around the block and stopped at Balzac Coffee on Grüneburg Weg for a Hauskaffee.

#FS2019OOBcoffeeride #6. A loop to Hanau where we stopped at Henri und Leo in the downtown pedestrian zone. I had a basic Kaffee Tasse, Flammkuchen klassischer (sort of a German pizza), and a Windbeutel mit Kirschen (cream puff with cherries).

#FS2019OOBcoffeeride #7. I was going to try and figure out the elevation of the Taunus snowline, but once again I got turned around in Bad Homburg and decided to save it for another day. I should have plenty of opportunity since it will be at or below freezing for the extended forecast (but no snow until next weekend). But first I stopped at Kamps Backstube on Louisenstraße in Bad Homburg’s pedestrian zone (don’t ride through there Monday to Saturday). I had a mid-size Kaffee Crema and three mini=croissants (two were Schoko).

#FS2019OOBcoffeeride #8. I stopped at Denfeld (a big box bike store) in Bad Homburg for a new kick stand and got a Bohnenk Kaffee from their self-service machine.

#FS2019OOBcoffeeride #8. After fat biking through Grüneburg and Nidda Parks, I stopped at Huck Bäckerei & Konditorei on Hügelstraße between the Dornbusch and Ginnheim neighborhoods in Frankfurt. It was late in the day and I just had a coffee and croissant.

#FS2019OOBcoffeeride #10. It’s still below freezing in Frankfurt and today we had very light snow all day, but little accumulation. My ride partner bailed on our planned ride so I just headed out mid-afternoon to ride through the Grüneburg and Nidda Parks and ended up in the Heddernheim neighborhood where I stopped at Bäckerei Bonanno for my coffee and unspecified pastry.

#FS2019OOBcoffeeride #11. A ride down the Nidda to Höchst, then back up it to Bonames Nordpark. In Höchst we stopped at the Alte Zollwache for Mittagsessen and I had Wildschwein Bratwurst with my coffee.

Need to be a bit more deliberate, as it is not hard to drink coffee in Germany. Knocked out #2 today while my boy played baseball with the German sport club we joined. Went to Bäcker Strohmaier in Aldingen down (north) the Neckar from Stuttgart.
