ParticipantThose are bike ramps so you can walk a bike up the steps. Similar design incorporated in the new steps up to Benjamin Banneker Park from Maine Avenue.

ParticipantNPS confirms, the regular route is reopened! They are still doing some final things, though, so proceed through carefully.

Lots of experience with the runnels in Germany. Too bad they don’t fit my fat bike.

ParticipantI will pass on good news- confirmed OPEN! Saw it in passing, but not through on the bike…yet. Definitely comfortably wider. One detail I’m not happy with- there is still wooden curbing on the edge. I *should* risk being called a wimp and ask for fencing so someone does not fall down into the backside of George Mason’s memorial.

ParticipantI went across it 6 times today, 3 in each direction. I kept hoping all of the marathoners would be gone and I could ride around HP. I suspect that there is still work to be done although it certainly is an improvement upon the former path. Those bollrads [sic] are going to lead to crashes. Besides for being in the way, cyclists and pedestrians should probably go around them on the right, but undoubtedly not every one will, and as of now there is no indication of traffic flow.

ParticipantI gave it a try tonight. Nice improvement. Some directional arrows or a white line would be nice to encourage traffic to split at the sign posts.

If they didn’t prioritize signs over people, you wouldn’t know what country you were in!

ParticipantWent through inbound with bike traffic today, and everyone seemed to get the idea of going to the right of the poles. The pavement past the light pole could have been extended a bit further down the hill before cutting left, and it’s too bad they could not get the same paving contractor that did such a great job redoing the MVT around the TR Island parking lot, but it’s a definite improvement.

ParticipantI appreciate the extra space, but this looks like somebody designed it specifically to cause accidents. Some paint might help, but wow, that looks dangerous.

It’s the stairs I fear the most, when I’m biking in the Virginia-bound direction with my kids.
