ParticipantIt should be interesting. I’m mostly just concerned about getting across the Potomac. There have been days with less fanfare than this one where keeping the rubber side down on the bridge was challenging.

ParticipantMy commute is heavily tree’d and sees lots of downed branches even in routine storms…there’s also the issue of crossing the river. So yeah, I’ll take the bus.

ParticipantPay extra attention to runners on very windy days. Wind throws dust in their eyes and faces, so they turn around without looking and assume no one crazier than they are. When it was in the 25 to 30 MPH sustained wind range more than a year ago, I encountered 2 to 3 runners doing quick U-Turns within minutes of each other, luckily I was slow.

I don’t recommend practicing your danger pandas today. The cross winds are brutal.

I rode from Clarendon to Courthouse (~1 mile)… It was scary. I am glad I drove most of the way in (but there is nowhere to park that does not cost $14-20/day, so I just drove to Station 4 and parked there). I may take the metro back to Clarendon this afternoon though if I can not find a lull in the gusts.

ParticipantWaPo says the worst of the wind will depart by noon… so I’m planning an afternoon sleeze ride. Even with the worst of it gone it’ll still be pretty brutal though.

ParticipantTailwinds all of the way in to downtown, but going home will be a bear. Crossing Key Bridge was not bad, but I was on the down river side. Minor debris on the Custis.

ParticipantCCT was all clear and quite pleasant. Then I got downtown and turned a different direction, and it was like being pushed sideways. Riding into the wind, I could barely move.

ParticipantTree down on the Custis at the top of the hill between the S-turn and the sisters. Easy to see since it’s at the top of the hill. The branches were much harder to see in the dark. Pics at 11:00.
Or now:

ParticipantIt was easier riding the Custis Trail than the Fairfax Dr bike lanes although as was previously said there was lots of tree litter on the trail. I did not go as far as the downed tree.
Heading west the wind was kicking up lots of grit off the street.March 2, 2018 at 5:10 pm #1084811Crickey7
ParticipantThere is apparently a tree down on the CCT now, along with even more debris.

Yes. I went into DC for a 9am event. The Whitehurst was great!! Whooosh!
Also, I didn’t know the government was closed. But the trail was eerily empty, so I kind of figured it out.
Nice crosswind on the 14th St. Bridge. No one else was on it, so I stayed right in the middle, which allowed for more room to get buffeted.
Check my Instagram for a video of the whitecaps on the tidal basin.

ParticipantI did a telework lunch ride starting at citizens bridge into Shirlington…the wind pushed me all the way as I raced the leaves in front of me…my kids were my SAG for the day, isn’t that what they are for?
