I figure I’m not going to win anything on this dumb competition, so I might as well award something to someone.

This original challenge was to have the largest circle on the distance/elevation/speed page, but I have learned that this is just the average speed and not based upon some complicated formula, so that idea is being scrapped.

Someone mentioned they thought that it would be for the longest ride that looks like a circle, so I will go ahead and change the challenge to that. I probably won’t be that strict on the interpretation of what a circle looks like, but it should be mostly round!

The prize will still be a six-pack of your beverage of choice.

Hopefully people can post rides that they want entered into this thread. Otherwise, I guess I’ll have to figure out who the winner will be. Now get out there and ride around in circles.

p.s. I changed the context of this original post, so if you happen to read some of the following posts, they may not make much sense if you haven’t seen this post before.

I do realize that I am not the fastest person, and will never be. And after making this post, I realized that there may be people whose “circle” is larger that is bunched in the middle of all the other riders. I’m also not sure what formula they use to generate the circles, so I guess I’d have to find out from the person who generates this stat.

Once in a while I may make a post that makes me appear as a pompous ass (and this was one of them), but I certainly don’t appreciate the jerk reference.

I had just assumed the larger circles on this page were up at the top (which is why I made the reference to myself and Bob). But after a closer look, I could see some that looked much larger than others bunched in with the others.

And assuming I can get someone in charge of the data to tell me how the exact formula works, I plan on giving someone something.

Now, I’ll just go out and ride my bike and be quiet for a while.

Size of the circle is related to average speed to express the 3rd dimension (distance, climbing, average speed) on the 2-dimensional page.

I thought this would be a prize for the longest, most circular ride (i.e., the largest circle on the map).

My apologies, it was a tongue-in-cheek comment.

The circles are just based on average speed. Total distance over total elapsed/riding time. You can see the actual data from the “Pointless” individual data. (I do think it’s a bit a silly prize because the competition is about going out and riding safely [mostly] through any weather, and typically the tougher the weather the lower the [safe] average speed.)

Hmm, since I’m new at this prize giving thing, and since the size of the circle isn’t based upon some complicated factor of the three measurements, maybe I should change it to the most circular ride. But then, I’d probably run into issues of how circular it really was.

Geeze, I never knew that trying to give away something could be so hard!!

Apologies accepted. And it’s always hard to tell on forums what people actually mean. Humor is so much harder when typed out to people that really don’t know you.

lol, and speaking of weird humor. How about that London Bridge prize that awards people for crashing on the ice (or in any other conditions). Riding safely?? I guess my biggest problem is that I am NOT a daily commuter (so I don’t quite get the concept) and would never even think of riding a bike in situations that increase my chance of crashing (or even worse). I figure the odds are stacked against me as it is. No need to increase it.

Maybe I’ll just look into peoples eyes at the end of year happy hour, and the largest, most circular eye will win the prize.

I can understand your ” why would I increase my risk” comment.
And humor doesn’t always work out so well on the keyboard (or the forum). Ride on! (In large circles)

1. Are you still offering a Pointless Prize to the BAFSer with the biggest circle?
2. What are the rules? Obviously “biggest circle”/fastest average, but are there are conditions, such as minimum miles logged (e.g., 1,000km)?
3. Can the winner opt to not have you stare into their eyes at the closing happy hour?
