I’m going to get it started. Sara Noser is a first year player on my team. She’s ridden every single day so far and was worried that the streak would be broken while she was out of town in rural Tennessee this weekend. But she still got a ride in by going to a bike shop and arranging for a short term sleaze rental.

    Way to go Sara!

I’ll nominate Rachel C. from team 17. She’s ridden every day this year, done sleaze rides at 4 am before flights out of town, gotten QOM’s in at least three states (maybe 4) during the competition, and is currently #2 on her team.

And plus, I even got to do a ride with her. She’s pretty frikken amazing!! (And can stomp pretty much anyone around on the hills!!)

Anybody else want to say something nice about a first year player on their team so that I don’t have to cancel this prize?

Hah! You better not cancel this prize. I told Rachel that she’d win some money and could buy me a beer at the final Happy Hour. (and I won’t even have to sell my email address!!)

The prize is Alan’s e-mail address.

While not on my team, I would like to nominate Josh as the “Rookie of the Year”.

He has completely embraced the ridiculousness of Freezing Saddles. He has ridden every day, is currently #2 overall, has joined in on almost every pointless prize quest and side bet imaginable, and has turned out to be a great endurance ride buddy for a few rides this winter. 😎

(I promise he was just annoyed at Dave’s flat tire and not that we were riding all day!)

I’m nearly certain Lynne S on Legal from Las Vegas is a rookie (Sunyata can confirm). To paraphrase from “Major League”: She’s gonna win the whole damn thing! She just went over 4,000 miles yesterday! What more needs to be said?

Heh, no. Lynn is one of the superwomen of cycling, and I was lucky to have her on my team last year. She’s already a Guinness world record holder, and about to go for a second. Major league, not a rookie!

Tim the Enchanter endorses this nomination. Josh was a great player of pointless games….. and the few times I nudged game play, he was completely responsive and a great sport! And even though the points dont matter, I believe he currently has the most points in Calvinball. He was also one of the few to actually cast spells!

Seriously guys…. all of you have somebody on your team who is a first year player. Unless all but two new players were total jerks this year, there’s gotta be something nice that you can say about somebody on your team that is a new player.

I’ll nominate Brian M (bmillah) from Team 19. He’s been ridiculously consistent and dedicated at getting his rides in. It seems like they’re all between 9pm and 1am, but I guess that’s what having real responsibilities means. He’s taken a nasty fall but was back on the bike, no days missed. Brian was a speed demon on the one Penguins group ride we’ve had.

Here’s to the (I’m assuming) king of the Paul Revere midnight rides.

I nominate Adam S (aschildg) from Team 11. Adam is super cool, and lives in S. Alexandria. And I’m pretty sure he’s a rookie since I don’t see him on a 2017 team and he only joined the forum this year.

Adam has done some really great work getting the South Alexandria cycling community organized. He set up a successful facebook and strava group. This was super helpful in figuring out trail conditions over the winter. Most forum people lived off the Custis or W&OD, so finding out for the MVT was doing south of Old Town was tough. Because of the active MVT South community Adam organized, I was able to ride to work many more days this year since I knew what the trail conditions were and how to be safe.

Adam also launched a successful cycling related fundraiser to raise money for the March for Our Lives. In doing so, he came from 5th place to 3rd on Team 11. Adam has done an impressive number of miles over the past few weeks–I think last week he was close to 300 miles in a week.

Adam also gets bonus points for coming on Team 11’s first donut ride of the year, and being a good dad and bringing donuts home for his kids. Plus he posts really cute pictures of his kids riding with him which I appreciate seeing on my Strava feed.
