ParticipantInteresting, it looks like they didn’t totally wipe things out because I didn’t do anything and am showing up on the team and leader boards.

They did wipe the team out. But they had us import the Strava group (which has far fewer members). So because you were already in the Strava group, you automatically became part of the team when you registered for the NBC.

ParticipantJust a reminder, only 18 days until the National Bike Challenge starts. Washington Area All Stars had several hundred members last year, but so far, only 68 this year. If you haven’t signed up yet this year, please:
* Join the National Bike Challenge at https://nationalbikechallenge.org.
* If you haven’t done so already, join the Washington Area All Stars Strava club at https://www.strava.com/clubs/69668.Note that this year, joining the team happens on Strava, rather than on the NBC site.

ParticipantI’m taking up a collection for the “Bob James Relocation to a Different State Fund.” For far too long Bob James had to suffer the indignities of living in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Let’s relocate him to somewhere nice like Florida or Arizona.
I, of course, have absolutely no self interest in Bob moving to a different state. I just want him to be comfortable as he prepares for retirement:

Judd, both those states are too hot during NBC. Think internationally. I see some riders from other countries on NBC. How about, Holland or Sweden? I hear they are nice places. I’m also thinking of the freezing saddles “freeze” points I’d get in the winter.

You’re right, Bob. I’m now taking up a collection to send Bob James to live on the North Pole.

I thought Freezing Saddles and NBC were like Who’s Line Is It Anyway? where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter.
Unless you’re in first; then the points definitely matter.

Sounds like loser talk to me.
Some people are really motivated by points and competition, whether they matter or not. Freezing Saddles seems to have more of an effect than NBC. There are several people on my Strava feed that rode way more during Freezing Saddles than they do now.
There’s also a norming effect. When you hang out with people that ride lots of miles, you wake up one day and realize that you also ride lots of miles. I was talking to Komorebi who is unaware of her ranking unless I tell her (currently 287th nationally… go Komorebi!) She was a bit surprised by her state ranking and started rattling off names of people that should be ahead of her. Many of them haven’t signed up for NBC this year, but when I started comparing mileage there was only a few hundred miles of difference.
Bob’s a Top 10 in the nation type of guy. I finished 152nd last year and want to finish in the Top 100 this year, even though the toilet paper prize isn’t tied to mileage.

I started riding consistently in earnest this year because of peer pressure—ahem—community here and I’m pretty surprised at my weekly mileage lately. And that translated to surprisingly high (for me) ranking in the NBC.

Remember when we rode to Baltimore and it was your longest ride ever? And then you rode a 150 mile ride the next month? The dark side worked quick on you.

ParticipantToday is the last day to join the National Bike Challenge and get credit for your May miles!! Please join NBC and Washington Area All-Stars Strava club! The team is doing great but we’re not winning because our team is much smaller than the one ahead off us. You can use this referral code (if you want to give me credit for referring you. If not just go to https://nationalbikechallenge.org)
Join this Strava club!
https://www.strava.com/clubs/69668
Thank you!
You can join as many teams as you like. I believe WABA is trying to get their Strava Club entered but I’m not seeing them on the list of teams I’m on. BikeArlington Strava club is entered…

No matter how I click the link to join from NBC, or even which hand or finger I use, I always get the error: Whoops, looks like something went wrong.
Can someone tell if I’m already in WAAS? Or if I should use my toe to try to click the link?
