Can you post some photos of your current setup?

Could it be aligned with the top tube, with the tip of the rod facing backward?

I was going to suggest something similar: along your down tube, with the handle and reel perched above the cage…but I realized your basket will be in the way:

What about moving the PVC holders to the lower forward strut of your basket, and possibly overlapping the fork leg? Obviously set it up so it’s braced and won’t shift out of place.

Thanks, that’s a good idea. Might have to offset it from the strut to clear the basket. It would lower the rod tips quite a bit to put them lower and on an angle like that.

Sounds like 20 min worth of fabrication. stop by the shop sometime this spring.

Yes, but … no fabrication involved!

Thanks for the offer Vicegrip. What kind of beer do you prefer?

I like the kind made from potatoes! AKA Vodka. No beer or vodka needed. A picture of a landed fish and pay it forward if you like. Weekday evenings and weekend early am works for me.

You’re approaching this from the wrong direction. You need to look at the rod, not the holder. Here, I’ll solve your problem for you:

Cogburn made a cool scabbard thing for their hunting/fishing marketed fat bikes. Not sure what happened to Cogburn they used to be carried by QBP? Anyway, I would probably hack something together myself rather than purchase, but its food for thought. I wouldn’t want to break down my rod everytime I hopped between fishing holes. I haven’t used a bike for fishing transportation lately. I like the idea of it sticking out behind the bike personally.

Cogburn is one of those sub-companies of QBP, like Salsa, Surly, All City, etc. and its focus is for hunters.

For a fishing rod, you can probably just get away with zip-tieing a PVC pipe to the outermost strut of the rack, like you’ll see many times in a google image search. In fact, you can embrace the idea of the rod being out there and back, and clip an orange triangle flag to the end of the rod for better visibility ;)

Yes, that “scabbard” looks a little too involved for my taste. I’ll try strapping a rod holder to the side of my rear rack, but I’d rather have it up front. One reason is I might want to use both panniers on some jaunts, and also, it’s easier to swing a leg over the bike without a rod back there.

Tiny/telescoping rods aren’t much fun to fish with.
