    I routinely wear out the back of my bike shoes because my heels move around a bit* so I end up with holes in the fabric. Since these shoes were broken in and still in good condition, I took them to a cobbler and asked them to fix them. I was very pleasantly surprised to see how well they turned out. The cobbler installed a piece of (red!) leather to the inside of the heel. Fits great and should out last the rest of the shoe. You wouldn’t even know there was a repair! Total cost was $35 for the pair.

    Nicely done! Who is your cobbler? Haven’t had a need for one in a while, but we always took shoes to (and I highly recommend) Highland Shoe Repair (in the Court House ‘hood).

    Please tell us it’s Sam Torrey. No real reason except proximity. And I like saying the name.

    I’d always had the heal wearing out problem as well, but it’s mostly gone away once I started using a shoehorn.

    I routinely use Best Foot Forward in Pentagon City. Have been going there for at least ten years and have always had very good service from them. Family owned business and if they don’t think they can fix something or that it isn’t worth it they will tell you. They have also fixed some airline-mauled luggage for me as well.

    I too wear a hole in the same spot before the rest of the shoe wears out. Who’d you have do this work?
