I guess Surly isn’t going to make any more road bikes. :p

Did Surly ever really have a road bike?

Anyway, yeah, I kind of agree. I ride on the open road a lot less than I used to, drive to ride a lot more, and I don’t keep mental notes of my annual mileage.

They’ve had the Pacer for pretty much as long as I’ve been cycling. I don’t think its popular (I’ve never seen one in the wild). Roadies aren’t into the retro-hipster thing I guess.

I totally agree, and have come to a similar conclusion. I am trying to stick to the path (arlington loop for example), but thats nearly as dangerous with the pedestrians (like people with dogs on one side of the path, person on other, leash in between). Ive considered Mountain biking but I dont have that skill set and the places I could do that are a drive away. Beach drive isnt too bad, but also, a drive or dangerous ride away. Its pretty disheartening out there.

I know someone who owned a Pacer, and have also seen them in the wild, but rarely. The Steamroller is their fixed gear road bike. I’d consider the Long Hall Trucker a road bike, too, though of the touring variety. I use my Straggler as a road bike, depending on what tires are on there. I agree that none of these options read “roadie”; not surprising, though, for a company that says, “you can get fancier bikes, but what are you, some kind of dick?”
