Rosslyn Protected Bike Lane?

Oh man! That is a regular route for me for errandneuring and getting around town. If that becomes a reality it would be a huge boon.

That little segment of bike lane goes up two hills with “parked” (or stopped with flashers on) cars, delivery trucks, and folks treating the bike lane as a turn lane, serving as major obstacles out to kill climbing momentum.

I was just hoping they were fixing the terrible pavement conditions between Oak and Quinn (the bike lane paint had worn away), but I’ll dare to dream. Lord knows bike infrastructure is the thing I always clamor for in the Rosslyn BID surveys, :rolleyes:

Long time coming – this was supposed to happen last year and then this stretch got pulled from the paving list. It’ll be parking-protected like the lanes on Hayes between 15th St and Fern. My understanding is that the right-of-way was tight, so don’t be shocked if the lane or the buffer are a bit narrower than would be ideal. Looking forward to slowly climbing that hill without getting buzzed.

Also, I don’t think this first bit of paving goes all the way to Courthouse, though the plan is eventually to go that far. It was definitely a collaborative effort with Arlington County staff. There are some great people working there.

And if you like protected bike lanes, be ready to get loud over the need for one on Quincy. The County Manager called it a no-brainer in the Winter, but we have yet to see plans, which is worrisome.

Probably because it makes no sense. Where in the intersection are they installing the bollards, in the right hand traffic lane on the street? That’s the only thing I can see that will make the crosswalk shorter.

Safety improvements to Lee Highway and N. Fort Myer Drive crosswalk + crosswalk at 19th and Lynn Sts.: These busy intersections can sometimes feel treacherous for pedestrians and cyclists. When they say “safety bollards,” I’m thinking they mean flexposts.

Upon looking on Google Maps at the streetview of the intersection of eastbound Lee Highway/N Fort Myer Drive (I’m assuming eastbound Lee Hwy instead of westbound) as shown here: https://goo.gl/maps/tsqYSH7kQsB2 , I would imagine they will square off the northeastern corner using flexposts. That is the corner that doesn’t have a fully painted crosswalk, and the crosswalk paint does not line up with the wheelchair ramps on the east side.

This is a fast way to have a temporary bump-out until a permanent bump out can be installed.

Welp, its been a month and change… still no bike lane… protected or otherwise. Wilson on this segment is still without lane paint (Nicely resurfaced though!)
