WABA posted this image showing a detour for the MBT due to the derailment. They are saying that the trail is likely to still be closed Tuesday morning.

There’s construction work on the north side of the RT 50 trail by the 10th St ramp. Sad to see the nice new pavement torn up. I hope vdot/Arlington make them do a very good job fixing it.

Yesterday’s storms meant the Rock Creek trail was flooded in a few places: at Peirce Mill, the underpass at the Klingle Road ramp, and from the Massachusetts Avenue bridge to the cemetery. The route through the zoo was also closed. The closure of Beach Drive north of the West Beach Drive intersection made for a quieter ride through the park.

Trees down across the CCT as of this morning, reports are coming in that they are being cleared now. Will update after I ride through on my way home tonight. Lots of debris from last nights storm. The Enthusigator and I cleared a couple of large fallen branches off the trail, with the help of some passing cyclists. There was one big one down that we had to carry our bikes around.

Forgot to update! The CCT was clear as of yesterday afternoon, there is still some scattered light debris here, but I assume that will make its way off the trail eventually.

Race on Custis Trail 14 May

Signs are not well placed and curling so hard to read while going past on a bike (and oddly none at my entrance to the trail). However, I think that it indicated that there was a race or some kind of school event on May 14 in the morning on the trail, at least from about Glebe and west. If anyone has more information, please post. Probably best to avoid since the trail is quite curvy and narrow, so passing lots of people will be difficult and/or dangerous.

    Goslings are out!
    Geese are being protective!

Both yesterday and this morning I noticed that the geese on the MVT were being quite belligerent near the trail. This morning I saw why – a small fuzzy gosling. Please be aware that this is what the geese are up to and keep some distance.

The repaving on the Mount Vernon Trail at the south entrance to National Airport has been delayed. The contractor is awaiting stone to complete part of the project. The stone will be delivered after Memorial Day. The contractor has until June 18 to complete the project.

Looks like there will be a water fountain just north of the exit ramp from the airport on the MVT.

Probably also an environmental violation dumping it over part of the storm sewer.
