Please take the time to report on issues involving trails throughout the DC area, especially … around the Jefferson Memorial and East Potomac Park that requires some sort of rotary brush attachment or blower as are used in Arlington and by the NVRPA.
Probably need the heavy-duty end loaders to keep the trails clear of tourists.

Nope, just trying to keep up with things that affect my home’s value. And here’s my closest intersection, small van caused the hole two days ago. :p

This morning they are starting work on the repair.

I think what you are witnessing is the natural birth of a traffic circle. It’s so beautiful (wipes tear from eye)!

How?!
JDA (just driving along), may have been a water main break under the road surface eroding from within (you know how those reds used to try and infiltrate everything).

Participant1. All this year I have noticed that ALL the vegetation anywhere near the power lines has been cut back, not just tree limbs or nearby trees. Shrubbery, scrub-like brush and everything. I understand the trees (but not how they actually trim them, so cruel when other shaping techniques can be used), but why everything else? Anyone know why? Just easier access to the wires? removing invasive plants? Just because they can?
2. Yesterday, Sunday 3 April, anyone know why there was a car crash on the W&OD in Vienna near the old train station? Nothing was there on the way out (8:30am-ish), but later (10:30am-ish, I think), there was a tow truck pulling out a car. The cop stopping people from entering the trail only knew that they had to pull the car off, but not what happened. I suppose someone was driving on the trail or somehow doing doughnuts and missed in the closed section of the neighboring parking lot. If anyone knows, I would be curious to find out. I cannot yet find through a web search.

Definitely “Just because they can.” This seems to be (the) DOMINION’s approximately decennial W&OD right-of-way desertification program. My mother deals with a power line easement on her property in another state, and the contractors have the exact same “must destroy everything on our path” mentality.
At least in my interactions, the guys working the W&OD have been courteous to trail users.

ParticipantPetal flurries, that is, although with these temperatures…
Dry winds should keep accumulations to a minimum. Don’t forget your sunglasses or other eye protection.

ParticipantSaw this yesterday on the Arlington Blvd Trail (south side) just east of Carlin Springs Rd:

This is what it looked like before: https://goo.gl/maps/B11E2Am8tD32
The asphalt portion of the sidewalk was sinking which left the concrete drain sticking up a few inches which made for an awkward bump.
I am happy this is being fixed, but I am not happy that there is no guidance to getting around this. Pedestrians/cyclists are forced into the street (an on-ramp coming from Carlin Springs Rd) without any signage or cones that could make things safer or more visible to drivers.
I posted this to the VDOT NoVa Twitter, but will also submit using the ArlingtonVA app.

ParticipantSo VDOT has been filling potholes…problem is they’re pouring in asphalt and then dumping loose gravel over the top (presumably as some kind of chipseal), and the mounds are big enough to easily catch a wheel. Also, the gravel is getting spread all over the road, which is not so bad if you hit it straight on, but if you hit the stuff on a corner at a decent rate of speed, you’re gonna have a bad time.

ParticipantJust after they filled the hole at Pavlivska and Turhenievska with gravel and readied it for paving, an adjacent section started to collapse yesterday. That was a real mess as I headed out for my ride and lunch. When I got home three hours later traffic was backed up for blocks and it looked as though they were going to totally reconstruct the manhole.

I have been happy to see that the Kyiv pothole patrols are out and making patches. One practice here is that they will frequently square off the hole before patching. I guess it is kind of like you dentist cleaning out the tooth decay before putting in filling.

ParticipantFor those who do not belong to the Capital Crescent Trail Users Facebook page but still ride it, MoCo park police continue their speed enforcement efforts on the trail. After a week or so off, they were out there again this morning ticketing riders approaching the Dalecarlia Tunnel. Seems to be only in the morning.

ParticipantFor anyone riding the Mount Vernon Trail, they did some work on the ramp that exits the airport, crosses the MVT and runs to the parkway. They seem to have taken the road surface down a significant amount. At this point be aware when crossing the ramp and there are now two pretty jarring bumps where the trail drops down to the road surface.
