    If you’ve ridden the Martin’s Tour of Richmond you probably got the email from Sports Backers about this new ride.

    “The first annual RVA to DC will feature a 156-mile course starting in Richmond, VA, and finishing in Rosslyn, adjacent to the Key Bridge with dramatic views of Washington, D.C. This advocacy ride gives you more than bragging rights, it gives the opportunity to “Bike for Your Right” towards safe and accessible bike infrastructure throughout the Commonwealth.”

    Too bad I’ll just be arriving in Frankfurt then.

    Oooh! In. Just deciding on camping or a hotel.

    Who am I kidding. HOTEL. Bathtub. Soft bed. Duh.

    I’m doing it if the dates end up working. I question their use of the FFX County Parkway trail, but that’s no reason to bail.

    Fat tires, people! They did the Tour de Cure on the FFX Co Parkway Trail south of W&OD one year. The folks on less than 25c tires were hurting. It was a good way to make people realize that re-paving should always be in the trail budget.

    Its also a reminder that tires less than 25c outside a velodrome are stupid. :-D The reality is that the options north/south through Fairfax just aren’t that great. I suspect the people on the wooden track tires would be even less happy on the GCCCT.

    I want to, but it’ll depend if I can flex my work schedule to get out early enough on Friday to catch the transportation down to Richmond. I’m also firmly in favor of a hotel.

    Probably a weird reason, but I like to ride it if for nothing else than a quick Friday evening ride to connect the RVA start point to the Cap2Cap route would interconnect all of my Strava tracked rides on my all-time heatmap.

    I am seriously interested in this. I haven’t been to Richmond yet, so its a nice excuse. Beside, it ends in my backyard in Rosslyn! I just need to commit the funds…

    I’m interested but am not thrilled they chose July; am not a hot weather person.

    The Richmond – Fredericksburg route looks rather flat and scenic if you like farm views. The Fredericksburg – DC ride looks hillier and less scenic IMHO.

    Their annual Richmond ride is supposedly very well run and supported so I suspect this will be a well managed ride.

    Alright! I’ve gotten the OK from work and the husband (he was a little confused when I told him all he had to do was meet me in Rosslyn… 1.5 block from home).

    Who else is doing this? Maybe we can get a campfire going in Fredericksburg! Even if you’re hoteling it, we can still hang out. 😎

    Currently in discussions with my wife on this one…I don’t really have an interest in no-amenities camping after 75 miles of riding in July, so I’d definitely take the hotel option in Fredericksburg.

    Well, I reserved some hotels, but I’m going to wait until closer to the event to pull the trigger so I can see what the weather is going to be like. If it’s going to be a hurricane or something forecast for that weekend, I’ll probably skip it.

    Looks like 100 degrees and sunny… but the way I see it, there’s little difference between 93-95 and a 105 heat index, and 100 degrees and a 105 heat index, so I’m still planning on doing it. Unless they cancel…

    It does look like there’s no fire allowed in the camping area, so no s’mores, but honestly, I don’t think hanging out by a campfire would be much fun in those conditions.

    I was thinking the same thing…so I pulled the trigger! I think a 6am start will go a long way to minimize the suffering. My only complaint is them not providing access to the bikes on Friday and a lack of transportation on Saturday morning.

    Sounds like they were very seriously considering cancelling but decided to go forward with it. If you see a guy named Brantley driving one of the support trucks, tell him BikeArlington says Hi and ask for him for a salt tab.
