ParticipantYeah, I am working on free mounts too. I don’t think I even am up to 25% yet, but it is getting better.
If/when I do move up in wheel sizes, you can borrow this 24″ for as long as you want to figure out if you want to get one.
It is weird how much it hurts to ride unicycle. I haven’t actually ridden much lately, just working on mounts. The learning is slow.

ParticipantI don’t mean to hijack the thread, but I saw a guy on a penny-farthing today on the WOD near Purcellville and I have no idea where else to post about it.
I have nothing to add except he was really moving and I’m really curious how he gets started or stopped….his feet were about the same height as my noggin when he went by.

Typical. You can’t go four posts without someone changing the subject

ParticipantA penny farthing is a BIcycle … Not sure why it is being mentioned at all in a unicycling thread!
There must be others on the forum with some unicycling interest. @GuyContinental has a couple unicycles, and used to ride them too, I think.

ParticipantRiding a unicycle is one of my eventual goals, but I haven’t tried it out yet. I have a few fitness/athletic-related goals. I actually reached one of them this year. That was to be able to do one-arm push-ups, which I can now do. Another is to be able to do 15 pull-ups in a set. I’m nowhere near that one.
I’ve looked up some unicycling videos in the past, mostly how to get on one and start a ride. But I haven’t tried it out yet. Maybe if certain things work out, I could try it in a couple months.
How is the stress different physically from regular cycling? There’s probably a lot more core activation because you have to keep your balance. Anything else?
What about equipment? I saw some of the big box store models online. I don’t know if I would ride one enough to require a more heavy-duty model/brand.

ParticipantFun video review of a huge-looking 36″ unicycle, including test rides by a kid and some lady in Virginia:

Well, considering the unicycle directly descended from the penny-farthing, I’ll argue it is relevant: The Unicycle: A Unique History
“It wasn’t long before some people realized they really didn’t need that back wheel of the penny farthing. First the back wheel was removed, then the handles too…and pretty soon the unicycle was born. The fact that early unicycles possessed one large wheel similar in size to the large wheel of the penny farthing further reinforces the idea that the unicycle was most likely a direct descendant of this accident-prone relative.”

And someone will say, “not to derail the conversation, but I saw a Chevy Volt in my neighborhood the other day!”

ParticipantSpeaking of riding on one wheel, I just saw a group of six guys on CaBis. They left the PA Ave security area and one of them was pulling a wheelie.

ParticipantHey Guys—guys…listen I have a joke:
What’s the difference between a well dressed man on a bicycle and a poorly dressed man on a unicycle?
Oh, just attire….
