FAQ – How is the Arlington Action Committee different from Arlington’s Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC)?
Good question! The BAC is an advisory body, charged with advising the County Manager and County Staff on bicycle issues. If that advice is not heeded (as it often is not), the BAC has little effective recourse as an official government body.
The Arlington Action Committee is an offshoot of the non-profit Washington Area Bicyclist Association and is not affiliated with the County in any way. It aims to be an effective advocacy organization, with a full suite of tools at its disposal to lobby all key decision makers to advance cycling in Arlington. It can agitate loudly and publicly in a way that the BAC really should not and arguably cannot.
