ParticipantOne thing we could really use a volunteer to do would be to create a FS2015 logo and then post a high quality version of it. PeteD and I were talking at coffee about this. What could happen is someone makes some great art, a nice logo – and uploads it. And then everyone can use it to make swag. If people wanted to use it on different things, just have at it.
Any volunteers?

ParticipantAnnouncing a NEWBIE GOLD NUGGET AWARD
In addition to the Original Gold Nugget award for most miles ridden on Jan 1, I also volunteer a special new Gold Nugget award for the *FS newbie* with the most miles ridden on Jan. 1.
Please let me know by Jan 3 if you think you may be a contender for either of the Gold Nuggets, so that I can determine who the winners are. We would really like for you to be present at the Jan 8 happy hour when we make the Gold Nugget awards, although if you absolutely can’t make it, you can designate a proxy to accept the award for you. I’ll post details about these awards on the happy hour thread as well.
Oh, and I also volunteered to handle the award for the most Hains Point laps over the course of the competition. Happy hours too.

ParticipantI propose that returning FS participants can only count Jan 1 miles ridden in excess of last year’s miles. Maybe as a percentage. Otherwise seems like this prize will always go someone in the same handful of riders. I am kinda joking, but there aren’t that many of the participants that can crank out more than 200 miles in a day (don’t remember what last year’s winner did, but I am guessing somewhere in that ballpark is gonna be the ticket).

I might be able to help with this – PM me.

ParticipantThanks for the suggestion, Hozn, but as the initiator of the award (for which last year was the first year), I don’t think we’ve gotten to the point yet where we need to do something like that.
Last year’s Gold Nugget winner was a 2014 newbie who rode 141 miles, and the two runner ups rode between 100 and 120(?) as I recall. Adding a newbie-only award helps address the issue you mention, and it might be won by someone riding many fewer miles than that, depending on the competition among the newbies.
One caveat I forgot to mention, and it applies to FS overall – please stay safe everyone, and don’t ride in conditions you don’t feel you have the right equipment and/or experience for. This is all just for our fun!
p.s. Congrats again to Vicegrip for last year’s win!

ParticipantSounds good
I think it is nice to have the happy hour after the competition starts for things like this.
I am planning to be at the happy hour to cheer y’all on.

First year, so not sure… will provide homebrewed beer for one or more prizes
I boiled up the “Solstice Stout” today. It’s in the primary fermentation bucket & I’m anxiously awaiting the first bubbles to tell me my yeast is alive & well and happily changing sugar into alcohol. I’ll be adding some bourbon-soaked wood chips in a week or so.
Just need to come up the pointless prize that goes with it (and finish up the rest of the brewing & bottling process – should be ready just in time for the end of FS).

ParticipantI’m also happy to volunteer for something, although as a newbie I don’t have a good feel for what would be useful, so feel free to volunteer me for something. I do own a can of gold spray paint that could be used to make all sorts of different “trophies” for pointless awards.
