In celebration of our history as a bicycle club 120 years ago and to share our excitement about next year’s UCI World Road Cycling Championship – Richmond 2015.
Dominion GardenFest of Lights has a bike theme this year, including a 20-foot holiday tree made entirely out of recycled bikes, and recycled bikes hanging high up in a ginkgo tree.

A Legacy in Lights: 120 Years from Bicycle Club to Botanical Garden is a holiday tradition featuring more than half-a-million twinkling lights, hand-crafted botanical decorations, model trains, holiday dinners, firepit with s’mores and hot chocolate (for purchase); nightly family activities & more. We are located in Richmond, VA, just off of I-95.

    Through Jan. 12, 2015 (Closed Dec. 24 & 25)
    Nightly 5 – 10 p.m.
1800 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, VA 23228

Very cool. Is it a walk-through exhibit? (So many of these light displays are drive-through). Is bike-through an option?

    Thanks!

This is a walk through exhibit. We have both indoor and outdoor displays. We recommend arriving early (4:40 pm) or Late (8:30 p.m.) if you plan to come on a weekend night because we can be busy as we get closer to Christmas.

Bike through is not an option for safety reasons. (sorry!)

If you do have a group that is interested particularly in the cycling history of the Lakeside Wheel Club we do early bird tours. Williamsburg Area Bicycling Association has booked one. Please let me know if you need more info on this.

We also have an exhibit on the history of cycling in Richmond in the Library. You won’t want to miss that. We have an antique bike on display there like the ones that would have been ridden during that time period. (This part of the exhibit will re-emerge next September during the UCI Worlds event — we’ll be open late select nights during the Richmond 2015 event as well.)

    thanks,
    Jonah

Ooh! This is pretty cool. Are dogs allowed in the park? If so, I may have to leave a bit later for my holiday vacation and stop by there on my way south.

    Sunyata,
Yes and no. We do allow dogs on select nights. The next one is Jan. 8, 2015. Here’s more info: http://bit.ly/gardenfest4fidos

Also, in the summer we have Fidos after 5, a wine and live music event with dogs. $2 suggested donation per dog goes to Richmond’s SPCA.

And here’s the Facebook event for GardenFest for Fidos: https://www.facebook.com/events/1488758004746460/
We hope you can make it!
