I noticed the other day heading north on Eads toward 23rd that there are lots of white markings on the brand new pavement – but they aren’t crosswalks and bike lanes – and instead appear to be the markings for new construction. I hope not, but it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen new pavement busted wide open for sub-surface repairs.

chris_sParticipantThe county definitely screwed this one up. At this point it’ll be extremely difficult to get anything down with winter upon us.
On the bright side, when it gets remarked it’ll be a cycletrack.

ParticipantI drove the 23rd St to 15th St stretch of Eads this weekend and it was terrifying without the lane markings. I can’t imagine trying to bike through there right now.

I’m told we have between two and three pavement marking crews out working on Eads St today. It may not get finished today but they should make substantial progress. I’ll know more when I get a chance to see it and I can fill you in then.

ParticipantI saw the center two-way turn lane, finally marked on a section of Eads. It did not follow those temporary markings that have been there for several weeks. The lane markings are not complete, even though the temporary signs on the parking meters say that the parking spaces would be unavailable from 11/20 to 11/25, 10 to 5 each day. The work crews are going to need access to those curb-side lanes if they are marking the new cycletrack lanes.

The section of Eads around 18th St. has been dug up in a few spots, just after it was repaved. There is currently an open trench near the intersection with 18th. (The lane was blocked off with orange cones.) Or at least the trench was open on Tuesday morning.
With the ongoing excavation and construction work going on at the site of the former post office building on the NW side of the intersection, there could be more temporary cuts in Eads. The curb-side lane is also blocked off because of the excavation work, so the cycletrack lane won’t be able to be marked on the southbound lane, heading toward 18th St. The excavation work crews haven’t dug very deep yet, so I’d imagine that the excavation work will continue on for some time, as in months, not weeks.

ParticipantA work crew was out this morning working at the corner of Eads and 23rd Street putting down the line markings. It appears that the line markings are in place southbound from the corner of 18th Street to Fort Scott Street. Northbound still has areas that need the line markings. Still to come are the stanchions separating the parking areas from the bike lanes, bike symbols and signs.
The picture below was taken on Saturday looking south from 18th Street.

That guys cropping job on his pictures while saying there is “no guidance” on the new parking pattern is the most disingenuous thing I’ve seen in awhile.
