ParticipantIn case you’ve been living under a rock, 800,000 people are expected to attend the free concert on the National Mall tomorrow. Performers and speakers will include Bruce Springsteen, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Dave Grohl, Eminem, Metallica, Jamie Foxx and others. [EDIT: Tom Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, President Obama, Michelle Obama and some other speakers appeared in video clips only. But Jamie Foxx, Bryan Cranston, Jack Black, Meryl Streep and others did appear in person to introduce the music performers.)

ParticipantWABA is reporting that bikes won’t be allowed on the closed roads. No details given on when that goes into effect, but a closed road cyclovia might not be in the cards. WABA also requests some simple courtesies – that bikes not be locked up to trees, other bikes, or members of the E Street Band.

I don’t live under a rock, but I have noticed that I have to make an additional effort to get my info now that I don’t listen to the radio in my car anymore. Another blissful benefit of cycling everywhere! What’s really odd is that I don’t really feel interested in listening to the radio anymore even when I am driving. I guess it distracts me from thinking about bikes.

Um, yeah. You don’t want Steven Van Zandt to channel his inner Silvio Dante.

ParticipantIt’ll be a rough commute this Veterans’ Day for people who still have to work
“But highlights for commuters will include the closings of Constitution Avenue NW between Pennsylvania Avenue and 18th Street, Independence Avenue SW between Third and 17th streets, Fourth and Seventh streets across the Mall and 14th Street between E Street NW and C Street SW. The closings include all the streets that surround the Washington Monument grounds.”

ParticipantPlenty of people are biking and running along Constitution Ave. A large group of Segway riders is also on the road. Maybe part of the road is blocked off to cyclists, but much of the road was open for bike/run/Segway traffic. Same as on Independence Day.

I walked around to see what the crowd was like. I could see the stage, but I couldn’t distinguish any of the people there. The performers weren’t there yet, but I knew that later on, I wouldn’t be able to tell anyone apart. So I figured, I might as well go home and watch it there. HBO is available to nonsubscribers tonight. The concert is also being streamed live on the website.
