I read that the leadership of BikeArlington is changing. Who will be the successor to the throne?
Thanks for the vote of confidence!
We’re in the hiring process right now for the new position. I was able to take a promotion to BikeArlington Operations Manager and assume official responsibility of most all of the day-to-day activities. The new position being hired for will also handle the WalkArlington and Capital Bikeshare program.

“Chris Eatough, a former professional biker and the director of BikeArlington, envisions an Arlington County where there are more bikes than cars.

BikeArlington, a program of Arlington County Commuter Services, is engaged in encouraging more people to bike more often. Eatough’s last day as BikeArlington director is August 28. He is leaving to become Howard County, Maryland’s first-ever bike and pedestrian coordinator.”

ParticipantChris Eatough’s successor will be none other than Phoenix Bikes’ HENRY DUNBAR. 😎
Friends and Colleagues:
I apologize for the mass email, but I wanted to share the bitter-sweet news that I have accepted the position of Program Manager for Bike Arlington, Walk Arlington, and Capital Bikeshare of Arlington, effective Sept 22.
For those not familiar, Bike and Walk Arlington are countywide initiatives to encourage more people to bike and walk more often in Arlington. I will succeed Chris Eatough, who is taking a similar position in Howard County, MD.
Rest assured, I am not leaving Phoenix Bikes, but will transition into a new role (preferably as a Board member) to help it grow into the organization I know it can be. My new employers have agreed I can continue to serve Phoenix Bikes directly (and I wouldn’t have taken the job otherwise). We discussed at length my vision for Phoenix Bikes and how it should be an integral part of making Arlington a Gold-Level Cycling community. While I have worked hard in the past 2 1/2 years to grow and sustain Phoenix Bikes, I have always had larger ideas about creating a bike culture in Arlington and this position grants me the unique benefit of working directly to implement them.
Two projects I know I will continue to work on for Phoenix Bikes are (short term) the 2014 Arlington Fun Ride on Oct 4, and (longer term) the new Phoenix Bikes building and corresponding capital campaign.
The Phoenix Bikes Board will soon form a search committee for my successor and the job will be posted on our website (among other places).
Phoenix Bikes is as strong as ever and we will be adopting a strategic plan in the fall. I am confident we can find a dynamic leader to help us continue building it into one of the premier youth bike programs in the country.
