Mentioned in the Morning Commute thread, and it does indeed need its own thread.

My weekly mileage varies. If I just do my regular commute it’s 35 miles. Right now with the kids in summer camp I’ve been replacing three or four of those 3.5 mile one-way trips with 13 mile one-way trips on the Xtracycle. When I’m not tired from dragging the kids around, I would usually do at least two longer commutes (Through Rock Creek or a lap or two at Hains Point or both if I’m feeling sassy). When the weather is nice there’s usually one family bike ride over the weekend in the 10-15 mile round trip range.

In general, I think I do between 40 and 80 miles a week.

75 miles total commuting in a 5 day week. Tack on another 5-10 per week during grad school to get to and from class a couple times. Sadly, I don’t get much non-commute riding in, usually just a few miles with cyclingfool, jr. in tow in his Burley trailer. Longer rides or even solo fun rides for that matter, like the 77 miles RT to Leesburg on my birthday or overnight trips on the C&O, are “a couple times a year” occurrences at present.

If I ride a round-trip commute all five days the commute alone will be 215 miles. My peak week since NBC started is 239 miles. Lately I’ve settled into a routine where I ride 3 round-trips, and then do one leg on each of the other two (and always consecutive) days, which makes for 172 miles of commuting in a week.

If I ride on the weekend I don’t do so for more than one day, and the distance isn’t usually all that great. I have found my body definitely prefers that I have one complete rest day per week.

About 17 miles each way to work/home (a few tenths a mile more) plus I ride to lunch and back (usually 2miles or so total). So about 36 a day or 180 a week. But I would guess it’s more like 150 a week because factoring in days I’m sick during year, work travel, vacation, etc and then the occasional (maybe once a month) weekend ride.

Right about 100 miles a week, on average…although we’re in week 31 of the year and I’ve only got about 2400 miles, but I’ve had some gaps due to vacation and family-related travel. My commute is 15.5 miles round trip, 5 days a week, although once every couple weeks I take the bus. I usually get at least one longer ride in on the weekends, but those have been limited this summer due to a heavier-than-normal social schedule, which has been frustrating. But in 4 weeks I’ll be in my masters program full time and not working, so I expect my mileage to go up significantly. Also hoping to finally start hitting the coffee clubs pretty regularly as well, since my classes are in the evening.

Ok then, as I asked the question, still working on different routes for my commute, but it is currently in the ~17 mile per day (round trip), so that would be 85 miles per work week.

Have to map out how to add a wee bit of riding at Hains Point when I am feeling frisky to push the mileage up.

Not yet rebuilt the road bike from the move, but would hope to get in at least a 40-60 mile ride per weekend once I am a bit more fit.

I find that I can ride every day, but it does wear on me. So if I work up to riding both weekend days will have to cut out one commuting day.

My commute just increased to 62 miles/week from 44 miles since I moved from Rosslyn, Arlington to Del Ray, Alexandria. I only commute 4 days a week since I telework on the 5th day, so my current round trip is about 15.5 miles. It’ll increase again by a little bit in a month when we move into the new rental house in Del Ray since that’s a few blocks further from the MVT.

I also do another 10-40 miles on the weekends depending on how much time I have.

Per Strava it looks like the last 4 weeks was 122 a week and 3600 for the year. My min round trip is about 15 miles but I have a set of routes that can add to the in or out ride. I don’t mind riding every day year round but I do tend to cut to the minimum distance when life is busy. I also add in evening and weekend rides as life and desire permits.

My daily average is about 26 commuting miles, although there have been more days this year where I took the more direct route to work. I’ve also taken more weekend days off the this year, so my weekly average is about 200, down from 250 each of the past four years.

After a slow(er) start to the year, I’ve settled in at a pretty comfortable 200mi/12hrs per week. Last year that would have felt too much, but it’s feeling great now. 120 of those miles are the mostly-MUP commute; I do effectively 4 days of round trips since I leave my car at work. I ride at most 20-30 miles on the weekend, except for the half dozen races and organized rides I do during the year. Little kids, so no time / not a priority on weekends; getting up at 5:30AM is far less disruptive to family life. And having a couple rest days is great. I’m trying to make sure my extra miles this year are helping make me a faster/stronger rider — so more group rides/training rides, more hills, fewer Arlington loops (unless I’m towing my son, in which case the loop is a great place to ride!).

I work 7 days a week, and thus I commute 7 days a week. For the last few months I have tried to take the longer way in (20 miles), and the more direct way home (12 miles). Since June I’ve been averaging 200 miles a week, give and take. Every Sunday I take an extended hilly ride to work up Walter Reed, across to Military Road, around Ditmar and back to the WOD at West street… this is usually the only day without a backpack, but still commuting.

Usually around 75, but since the beginning of July, 140 and some.

If I do the typical commute 5 days a week, that’s 65. But my whole universe has changed recently:

1. I’ve so far been held back by “I’m not training or nothin’. Let’s just take the easy peasy route home”.
2. I’ve figured out what I’m training for – to raise the standard of what my body thinks is torture. Some day, maybe in a couple years, that standard will approach “finishing Kill Bill”.
3. I entered a work contest for which I have to average 20 miles a day until August 31, and who knew, I’m pretty competitive.

So I’ve been doing slightly longer commutes in the mornings, significantly longer commutes in the evenings, waking up on Sunday mornings¹ to ride, and deliberately going up some hills n stuff.

The only downside to this is that I pay a greater penalty for not sleeping properly – full-scale revolts occur in the leg parts.

¹Which apparently occur every Sunday! Remarkable, the things they invent these days.

I’d say 100 is a low mileage week, and 200 is high mileage week for me. I only need to commute 3 days/week at most, which suits me just me.

My weekly mileage has been increasing slowly but steadily since I started riding almost a year ago. Over this calendar year, I’m at about 100/wk, but over the last several weeks it’s been about 120/wk. My biggest week was two weeks ago: 201.4 miles. My commute is at least 7.4 each way, and I try to lengthen that by a few miles as often as possible. Lately, weekend rides have been prompted by Rockford10, and she has been looking for longer and longer rides, so I’m very happy about that!
