The study found that OF INJURIES THAT OCCURRED, a higher percentage were head injuries than before. What all of these authors and speakers keep skipping over is the fact that all injuries (including head injuries) are occurring less frequently. So fewer total injuries, fewer head injuries. And somehow that equals bikeshare = dangerous for your head? Huh?
Other outlets like The WashCycle and Greater Greater Washington have already pointed out how badly the media and the study’s authors are twisting the data, but the FOX 5 story is a new addition to the pile of inaccurate and wildly misleading reports about bikeshare and head injuries.
If injuries of all types become less common, and head injuries also become less common, what is the problem? Are some people that desperate to find that “treehuggers are facing poetic Darwinian justice” (to paraphrase some of the… not-so-bright comments I’m seeing online)? Wow.
