Vicegrip
ParticipantYou can also try posting a WTB on craig’s list. A fellow board member did just that and shook a real nice deal out of the tree.

ParticipantVicegrip is right. I was looking for a 61cm first road bike. Spotted nice CAAD 9 but the ad was removed. Larger frames like this are harder to find, so I placed a WTB for a CAAD 9 61cm hoping the original advertiser might see it. Had several responses from guys selling similar bikes, including the Scott CR1 Pro with Ultegra everything that I eventually bought for a very nice price. The seller had a new high end bike sitting in his office for a couple of weeks. His wife had told him he couldn’t buy it until he sold one of his current bikes. The s-1 rule had been skirted!
The Scott has been terrific. 2006 model but with a superb carbon frame, good wheels, and definitely more bike than I expected for the money. Good luck with your hunt. Post progress as the search proceeds.

ParticipantI have a GT Series 1 Aluminum frame with Ultegra components, size XL. I think it is a 57 or 58. I’m 6′ and it is a little large for me. $800.

Hi,
Just moved to DC without a road bike and am looking for a large middle-of-the-road (not too old please) that I can ride on for a year or so. Thought perhaps somebody may have a bike in their collection that they are no longer using… my haunting of Craigslist has so far has been disappointing.
Very broad request as I am relatively open to anything at this point.
Thanks,

ParticipantI’d also check out the DC used bicycle marketplace group on Facebook. It runs a bit towed the racer side but every once in a while you can find a good deal. I’m a larger sized human as well so I feel your pain.

ParticipantAnd you could swing by Phoenix bikes and see if they have anything large. They have tons of bikes waiting to be fixed up, and if you see want you’ll buy, I think they’ll get it ready for you in a week or two.

ParticipantThanks for all the suggestions. Posted in craigslist (though figuring out where the post actually went confuses me), see what comes of it.
Is there a link to the facebook group? facebook search, as usual, is useless in this regard.
I’ll try to get over to Phoenix as well, what is the quality of their products like normally?
Again, thanks for the help, any more tips are welcome though! Or bikes for that matter.

ParticipantYou may also wish to call The Old Bike Shop. They refurbish used bikes. Sometimes you can get a great deal on a new bike when the bike shops are looking to unload last year’s inventory.
