Nova Epic — Need Beta

This year’s Nova Epic is Sunday June 1. Last year dcv, Rod and I had such fun riding the 40 mile route of cross/hybrid bikes that I totally want to do it again.
Looking at the website I see they have changed the routes. The 40 miler now starts and ends in Lake Fairfax to avoid the need to shuttle. Then there are 60 and 65 route options which are still point-to-point. So here are the questions:
1. Which route do you think would be most cross-(or Viaje-)able? I’d be in this mode:

I am always the advocate of riding those trails on the cross bike. I think it’s a blast. It turns fairly non-technical trails into something that is really engaging. I will say, though, that I have enjoyed putting larger (38-42mm) tires on my cross bike for those trails. Especially the newer more technical stuff is more fun on bigger tires. Of course, I went bombing down that hill to the creek and cut my sidewall a couple weeks ago, so I learned that it’s still not quite a mountain bike
Previously I would always ride (usu. w/ GuyContinental) on 32mm tires and while my Kenda Kommandos (tubeless) made the trek through Lake Fairfax many times (without flatting once!), one does have to ride carefully on the small tires. It certainly is different than riding on the MTB. Log hopping, in particular, tends to make a mockery of the much-more-roadie geometry of my cross bike. But if one was going to ride there and back, it seems like a great option (faster on the pavement or gravel sections for sure).@hozn 85317 wrote:

To each their own, I suppose. After a fair bit of trying to ride a cross bike off road, I decided that an actual MTB is waaaaaaay more fun and sold the cross bike.
