    The ad is targeting those with active lifestyles. Other ads in the series show the car owners on kayaking and camping trips (I think). This one shows the Lexus owners on bikes almost as much as it shows them driving. They appear to be triathletes instead of cycling specialists, partly because they show Cervelos (which are very popular among triathletes) and because in the final scene, the couple seem to be preparing for an open water swim. (Probably not the greatest idea to swim at dusk or dawn with no safety personnel or anyone else nearby. Or maybe they are just enjoying the view after the bike ride.)

    Anyway, it’s a car commercial that focuses on bikes as something cool and fun, and appropriate for a car/SUV owner.

    Don’t forget the Nissan Rogue ad where there are a bunch of scofflaw hipsters on bikes weaving through traffic, so the driver gleefully ignores all laws of the road and physics and drives like a complete maniac on top of a train and whatnot.

    I’d really like to see more car ads where they show how nice the car is when you drive it in conditions you’re likely to actually drive in. Anyone can have a blast doing power slides in dry lake beds or tripling the speed limit on roads closed to all other occupants. But what’s your car like when I’m stuck on the Beltway?

    Sometimes I wish bike companies would advertise on TV. And even make cyclists look as normal as car drivers. I can’t think of any TV commercials for a major bike brand, and if they are, I think it would only be like a Madone and show someone climbing a mountain that 99% of riders don’t/can’t climb. Perhaps just a commercial showing a cyclist riding on trails next to heavy car traffic and enjoying their life.
