In response to several people at BAFS Happy Hour tonight, here is how to participate in National Bike Challenge without having to upload to multiple places.

FitnessSyncer is a free service that will take your data from any of the following sources, and sync it to MapMyFitness, which is one of the apps that National Bike Challenge can pick up:

    • FitBit
    • Garmin Connect
    • Microsoft® HealthVault™
    • RunKeeper
    • Nike Fuel
    • Jawbone UP
    • Strava
    • Training Peaks
    • Comma Separated Files (CSV) import from DropBox

You only need to set it up once, which you can do at this link, and it will sync each new activity as it occurs. The only tricky bit is that FitnessSyncer takes a little while to sync. So if you go to MapMyFitness and see that it hasn’t synced yet, don’t upload the data to MapMyFitness as well. If you do, once FitnessSyncer syncs, you’ll end up with duplicates of every activity. Don’t ask me how I know this!

If you’re impatient (like I am sometimes) and want to see your ride got to NBC immediately, you can go to the FitnessSysncer site after you’ve uploaded a ride to your standard site (Strava, e.g.), go to account and then there are links to force a sync there.

I’m having problems with Fitness Sync uploading two rides to MapMyRide for every Strava ride I have. When I look at the Fitness Syncer dashboard, it does not have multiple rides. Any solutions?

Somehow MMF thinks that I have ridden 9300 mile so far this year and 25,000 in 2013. I think there’s something funny going on with fitnessysncer, or I’m syncing from multiple places and i don’t know it.

No, you are truly an ELITE rider and just don’t know it. :p
