    I’m not sure when this was created but it’s randomly on a website for home outdoor maintenance, hence why it talks about the cost for retaining walls etc…

    These hills must be ridiculous. I can’t think of anything around here that exceeds 20-23%. What’s the steepest part of 41st St? Or Forsythe Ave off of Jones Mill? Or that hill on the triathlon course everyone talks about? Of course on street view these hills look steep, but not THAT steep.

    Due to it’s shortness, I feel like Pittsburgh’s may actually be doable. Fargo St. in LA already has an annual bike race apparently. I don’t think I’d want to go DOWN any of these hills. I already hate going down 41st St.

    Hah, that’s insane! I like the 32 degree forward tilt for stability, but I don’t think I can balance going that slow. I guess that means I don’t make it up, because I definitely couldn’t ride straight up it. The serpentine worked for me on a long steep climb in New Jersey on a tour but it can be tricky to perfect.

    PS – that guy looks like the TdF devil.

    I think the steepest part of 41st is about 20%.
    The Quebec St. climb Strava segment in Arlington shows 7%, but that includes the top part, which is much flatter. The steepest part looks to be about 15%. Not that bad at all–don’t even need to go down to the lowest gear :). (http://www.strava.com/segments/1140994). It helps a lot that you can get a downhill running start at it, however.

    The steepest part of the switchbacks tops out at 28%, per a measurement I made last summer using an inclinometer app. The ramp up to the switchbacks is 21% IIRC, and I think the actual street portion varies between about 12-17%

    Savageman’s Westernport Wall is an average grade of 25% with a maximum of 31% and it’s only four blocks long. Although few people seem to conquer it during the triathlon so they offer to make a brick that’s built into the wall for everyone who successfully climbs it, does not unclip/walk that portion and completes the race. I believe this where Elite takes on a whole new meaning.

    It’s a steep hill, but not quite as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I’d guess trying to weave around poorly prepared riders is the toughest part of getting up it during Savageman.
