Twice in 24 hours, I’ve fallen off of my old steel bike
.
I didn’t know it was going to rain last night. Riding down 2nd st ne, I went over a grate in mid-turn and my wheels slipped from under me in traffic. I immediately got out of the travel lanes and assessed some minor damage to my bike. After dusting myself off, I got back on the bike and tried to clip in, but couldn’t get it to snap on my right foot.
Here’s the reason:
I made it home, but was unable to really pedal too hard. Every time I laid the hammer down, my foot came off the pedals. Fortunately, I had a spare set in my garage and affixed them this morning.
Then I left for work this morning a little sore from the fall the night before, but I continued on with my new cleats. Then at the intersection of W Glebe and S Glebe at the top of the bike ramp, I slipped on some ice and fell on the same side. With the adrenaline running and being already late for work, I just continued on. When I got to the gym I looked down at my shin and noticed a golf-ball sized contusion. Had it checked out at an urgent care place near my work and they said it was just soft tissue and not filling up with puss/blood.
SO I guess I’m lucky to still be walking, although a little slower. But am I lucky enough to bike home tonight without falling down?
Lesson learned: Water makes the roads slick – slow down!
