You asked him? How? I doubt he was able to hear you. I cannot hear people while on the bike at those speeds, cannot imagine adding the engine noise on as an additional factor.

I guess you’re right – hopefully he was doing actual police work. Just wondering if anyone else saw him. Then maybe we could figure out what police work he could be doing.

I have seen Arlington cops trying to catch speeders on glebe road travel from route 1 to the mt. vernon/arlington ridge road intersection and back during rush hour. Maybe he was using the trail as to be more disguised? IDK

about a year and a half ago, I came up on a police officer driving a 4 wheeled vehicle on the 4mr trail between the creek and the sewage plant (during the day). He was going along, probably about 10 mph, until he got to that one dip, where it is also narrow, and completely stopped (and apparently, flummoxed on what do next)

In fairness, when I walked my bike around him, he did say something like ‘sorry about that’

What time was this? Every now and then I come across ACPD officers on the W&OD or the 4MRT. They have been on motorcyles, segways, bicycles, or suvs. Sometimes it has been in reponse to a specific incident, other times it is just a heightened presence.

I much prefer ACPD’s “Wide Pride – Trail Ride” style to the “This is an Ambush Bush” style embraced by the Falls Church Police Department. For a second when they jump out from behind that bush by the Masons’ Lodge you think “Holy crap mugger/killer/pyscho,” but then you realize that it is just a Falls Church cop – I guess that is a bonus?

I would be happy to have more police riding slowly along the trail. But about all I see on the MVT is the occassion cop on a horse in the warmer months.
