I’m surprised there hasn’t been a thread about this particular detour that’s been under construction for the past month or so. It’s open now (even though people have been using it for the past week or longer) and it’s going to be a complete disaster. How long will it be in use? Long-term could mean a year or more! I’d say I’m an experienced bike handler and it wasn’t easy managing the tight switchbacks and there’s absolutely no room for passing oncoming cyclists. I’m calling it now, there will be accidents and people will be injured. What happens when a double-wide stroller is coming in the opposite direction? There’s no room for passing on the straights.
Now granted, this path was built to be ADA compliant but does that mean it has to be so inadequate as a bike path? And once you’re at the top, what’s the best route for getting back across Rt. 1? Looks like I’ll be getting off the MV at Crystal City and heading south on Eads until it runs into Four Mile Run at the sewage treatment plant. Anyone have a better plan?
