This thread may not mean what you thought it would. Now that the shutdown is over (is that a double negative?) or the government is reopening, roads that have been closed to car traffic will now be open to cars again. This includes roads on local areas under the management of the National Park Service, such as Ohio Drive. (However, I have seen drivers take their cars onto the side walk at East Basin Drive to get around the barricades and then head over to Ohio Drive and either West Potomac Park or East Potomac Park.)
From what I’ve been reading here and elsewhere, most of the roads have been available to cyclists and pedestrians throughout the gov’t shutdown. Now that they are opening up again, cyclists will have to share those roads with car drivers again.
(I’m not making light of the impact of the shutdown on many local residents, including gov’t contractors who won’t get backpay for the time missed this month.)
