A couple of Sundays ago, I was finishing up my 21 mile run on the Capital Crescent Trail. I was heading south and on right hand side of the trail when I heard someone say, “passing on your left”. With no one approaching from the opposite, I kept running in the lane that I was in. A few seconds later, the same voice said, “well I just run you over, then.” As the biker was passing, he place his hand on me like he was trying to push me to the far right as possible. It wasn’t a forceful push but I was surprised at his agressive behavior. This was the first time a biker had ever laid a hand on me and it will be the last. Next time that happens, the biker will be kissing asphalt the hard way.

There seem to be some cyclists who think that in-lane passes are acceptable. Most here would disagree, so there’s not much else to say other than that we don’t actually control all cyclists with some sort of hive mind.

Interesting use of the plural in the headline, which was similar to the use elsewhere referring to joggers when both incidents seem to be about one specific incident.

Either way, they are certainly bad cyclists/pedestrians/runners, etc. Sorry it happened to you. Having been flat out tackled by an insane driver, I emphathize. Allbeit, I wouldn’t recommend responding with any sort of violence, particularly in DC, because you will probably be cited for 5000x things while the other guy walks. My two cents.

And you certainly shouldn’t post something on the internet ahead of time which could come back to haunt you …

This area is full of aggressive pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. I’ve never, ever, ever heard of violence toward them solving anything. It may feel good talk about. It may feel good to post about it. I don’t know if that really helps either.

I’ve started running and longboarding on the trails so that I can increase the number of peace-loving, mellow, respectful, multi-modal people on the trail.

I know the cyclist/runner interactions are not easy. Hopefully setting a peaceful example on the trail can help.

However you move on the trail, being a perfect example of behavior is the best way to make things better.
