ParticipantMVT is open, but all the parking areas are closed. Ohio Drive is open (or at least not closed to bikes). 23rd between Independence and the Lincoln is closed to cars, but bikes/peds were allowed through. The plaza in front of the Lincoln is open, but the stairs are blocked.

ParticipantJefferson (and I assume Madison) are closed to cars, but bikes are welcome once they get past the barriers (which unhelpfully don’t have gaps for bikes).

ParticipantFrom the world of the Pedicab:
To All Concession Managers and CUA Holders:
General Information Regarding a Potential Government Shutdown
If a closure happens it will take place upon the expiration of our current FY 13 appropriation, which ends tonight at midnight. Barring the passage of a continuing resolution or a complete funding bill, the park will not reopen to the public on the morning of Tuesday October 1,2013. and all concessions-operated visitor services and facilities are to be closed. Upon the park being closed you will have 48 hours to carry out any initial shutdown procedures that are necessary for your respective operations. For those of you that have investments such as grass, you will be allowed to send in your maintenance crews to protect your investment. For CUA holders your operations are to be suspended during the duration of the government shutdown. The park will have minimal staff working during a closure. If you need to contact a park representative during the closure you may contact Deputy Superintendent Karen Cucurullo at 202-245-6600. In case of an emergency please contact United States Park Police at 202-619-7500.
We understand that a closure will be very difficult for you and your respective staff and we appreciate th patience and grace that all of you have shown in the face of these immense challenges
For my bretheren in the pedal rides for cash business, NPS will not allow pedicabs to operate on Park service land (national mall, whitehouse, memorial park, east/west potomac park) during the shutdown. This will crush business.

ParticipantCCT was full of people around 11. There was a little sign closing it as Dirts picture showed, but it was easy to get around and seemingly no enforcement.
Same goes for Beach Drive which was closed to cars but no signs about bikes until about the Maryland state line, and
awesome to ride today! Again, we went around the sign at the north end, as a number of others had, and saw no enforcement.Just my $.02

ParticipantIn an ideal (shutdown) world, they would close the GWMP to cars today, so I could ride TR Island –> GWMP –> Spout Run –> HOME!

Actually, the raspberries are on the part of the island that’s closed now. But I almost forgot that I’m not headed to Cherrydale tonight. BIKETOBER FEST……

ParticipantOK. I did a mid-day, mid-week run around the Arlington Loop. It was fun.
Now that has been accomplished, can our elected representatives do their jobs now so we can get back to work?

There is no reason to be rude! This is a family forum. Please don’t use words like that!

ParticipantHoly crap! My bad. I apologize to all for my intemperate use of the “r” word. I gave that activity up about the time I began riding. Haven’t missed it a bit.

ParticipantI started running and cycling around the same time. And to tell you the truth, I took up both mostly because of Michael Phelps’ performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and the Olympic marathons that year.
It wasn’t until the next year that I started watching the Tour de France on TV.

ParticipantAfter a week plus layoff, I rode over to see the mess our elected bozos have created on the Mall. I’ve never seen so many confused tourists in my life. This guy from a Chinese tour group kept knocking on the window of the little concession stand near the Lincoln Memorial and shouting “WATER” and “CRACKER” as loud as be could. I didn’t have the heart to tell him everything was closed.
