Interesting post, with interesting arguments (most of which I’m sure have been made by people here). In the mornings I have a particularly bad section of road going up Good Hope Rd SE near the intersection with Woodmont Place SE. It’s uphill so I’m going 9-10mph. There are parallel parked cars to my right but drivers insist on passing, despite the heavy traffic coming down the hill. I have yet to be bold enough to completely take the lane, but I’ve been honked at several times and I give the finger a lot here. There’s definitely a feeling on this hill that bikes belong on the sidewalk. WRONG.

If only the woman from Annapolis could have had this conversation before the mini-van driver killed her.

Hmm, I think if I wasn’t going to take the lane in that situation, I *would* take the sidewalk, or a different route if it exists. Giving the finger a lot isn’t going to be particularly productive.

If I’m riding up say, Lee Hwy slowly on certain sections I will take the sidewalk. I’d just rather be safe. There aren’t any driveways in that section either.

Those posts remind me a bit of The Enlightened Cyclist.
