D.C. didn’t exactly invent the bike lane or bike trail. But they have helped to spur other big cities to set up bikeshare systems and develop better bike infrastructure. The article has a nice diagram of the number and location of new CaBi stations for each year, through July 2013.
The article is also useful to remind the general national media that large-scale U.S. bikeshare didn’t actually begin in NYC (as a couple writers have already mistakenly posted this year).
