ParticipantEh, never mind, I got some Shimano WM62s at REI.
They are exceedingly white.

I started riding again in my old Specialized MTB shoes from the early 2000s and I have to admit I feel like the stiffer sole does make a difference compared to my Chrome/Shimano casual commuter shoes. I might start looking around for something I can use with 2-bolt cleats and ideally CX and road riding. I do need a wider toebox I think, I have a pair of LG MTB shoes that I ordered online years ago that just does not fit width-wise.

I ended up with a pair of Shimano R107s, which support either 2 or 3 hole cleats and have a partial carbon sole which does not flex. Makes a huge difference on a long ride, but since I use the SPD pedals I can still swap in a pair of MTB shoes with tread if that’s better for a particular ride.

The Specialized touring shoe has a stiffness of “6” on their scale. It’s easy to walk in and stiff enough for me on the commute. It is also fine for cx, though I imagine it might not do great on slippery banks, as it does not have mtb shoe tread. Certainly for road rides I prefer the stiffness of carbon soles.
I also need wider shoes; Specialized does make a wide for certain models, though it is not wide where I need it, so I just have to size up in Specialized. Northwave is another option for wider feet. My Northwave road shoes are very slightly narrower at the same size than Spec, but also a bit more correctly-sized in length.

ParticipantI was looking at some of the Lake shoes with the BOA laces online that looked pretty cool, but with my funky feet I figured it was better to be able to try something on first. As I recall I wound up with the Tahos in the first place because I couldn’t get my feet into any of the road shoes at Spokes.
