Or, you know, bike to work…

That was my comment to my wife when I heard the story on WTOP yesterday. I think I might just have to go ride in to the district after hump-day coffee club just to investigate/document.

Sigh…I’m ineligible for telework, so my only satisfaction tomorrow will be laughing at drivers in traffic and turning the Smugness dials to 11.

Is the portion of the Rock Creek bike trail that runs along Rock Creek Parkway at the Kennedy Center going to be closed along with the parkway closure? The info says road closures will include pedestrian closures. Also, I usually bike down the Mall to 14th St. and Constitution — I know that won’t be possible, but will I be able to ride down Constitution either on the street, or the sidewalk? I’m not sure bike commuting is going to be such a viable option tomorrow, depending on where you are coming from. Does anyone have more info?

WTOP has info that they update from time to time. I’d keep an eye on the info there. It appears that bicycles, backpacks and bags of any substantial size will be prohibited in a lot of areas.

I work off of Virginia Avenue, and it doesn’t look like Virginia will be closed. You can take Virginia to 18th, then either take C or D to the Elipse, or just take Constitution (the sidewalk) and end up on 15th. I don’t know exactly how you usually ride, but that may be a better alternative to RCP and the Mall every day.

I get the sense that the trail will be open, as only the road is listed as being closed. On the mall, however, you’d probably have less luck, but looking at the closures, it looks like Constitution will be open.

Thanks. The NPS website says that all closures will includes pedestrian closures, which is why I was wondering about the bike trail. I think it will probably be closed.

There was a fence put up last week across Rock Creek Parkway and the trail just before the underpass for the ramp going up to Memorial Circle. However, the section across the trail was open when I cycled through on Sunday. This might be where access for the trail ends.

Fox 5 posted this helpful map marking the road closures. I come in from Arlington over the 14th St Bridge and yesterday morning I road past a police car and barriers being erected on Ohio Drive SW heading north toward memorial circle. I think with no pedestrian access that means the Rock Creek trail will also be closed in the red marked areas on the map. I plan to take the Mt Vernon trail/VA Ave connector over the TR Bridge and past the Kennedy Center into Foggy Bottom.

I have permission to telework, and have to go home in the middle of the day, but have a morning meeting with important people, so can’t telework (at least in the morning). UGH!

don’t worry, they’ll cancel at the last minute because of traffic :)
