ParticipantI cant personally offer anything, but I do have an rss feed for Craigslist that looks for 60cm and 61cm and has returned some results. I’d also subscribe to the ” I saw this deal” thread if you haven’t already.
Good luck!July 8, 2013 at 6:41 pm #974823dasgeh

ParticipantNice bike!
The kid test rode a few bikes this weekend. Definitely liked the Allez. I think he likes the speed of a road bike. A few more to test out. We both liked the bright orange tricross! But they did not have it in his size in the shop for a test ride.

ParticipantI may have most of a LeMond Tourmalet that would be a nice choice. I’ll see what is missing when I get home. It might just be missing a front wheel, which I can build up easily.

Yep. That ad’s been reposted for a few months now, and it pisses me off every time I see it.

ParticipantI don’t have any help on the used front, but I can say that I have been riding the steel frame Specialized Tricross since April and absolutely LOVE it. I’m about 6’4″ and the 58cm works well for me. If the Tricross is too dear, the Bianchi Volpe is a very similar bike, minus disc brakes — maybe worth a look.

He shouldn’t be allowed to post in under “Bikes” if he doesn’t think it is meant to be ridden.

I made a deal to the kid. If he forgoed getting his drivers license, I would buy him a bike. Well, he is taking me up on it. He has been riding an old steel motobecane road bike with drops and lever gear shifters. He is going on 6’3″
Since it’s off topic and none of my business, why not keep it to not getting a car but having his license? Having a drivers license and knowing how to drive safely is a pretty valuable skill for anyone, let alone a college kid. I can remember several times where I drove to a party with someone and ended up having to drive their car home because I was the only one sober enough to do so. Not to mention in emergency situations in general.

Insurance increase would kick in if he’s a licensed driver and living in the house.

Yeah, I wish that my parents had let me (or rather helped me) get a license before going off to college. Not that I really needed a car in college, but having to learn to drive / get a license on my own at 21 was logistically difficult. OTOH, if I’d had a bicycle back then, I probably would have postponed needing a license for a few more years after college.
More to the point, I have a Volpe frameset which I expect is too small (58cm), but it’s yours if you want it. I have some 30mm alloy wheels (which I think are swell) that I would part with inexpensively, if that would help complete a build.
