ParticipantI’ve got something brewing for this Friday, but I can do 8/23 if you want to plan for an afternoon ride!

ParticipantPerhaps. Depends a little on how this week goes. I’ll know more by Wednesday.

ParticipantI was thinking something under 50 as I have to be back in VA by 530pm. Oxon hill? Mt Vernon? Holmes Run? Purcelville sprint?

ParticipantAre Oxon Hill or Holmes Run rideable on road bikes?

ParticipantI might be able to swing this as well… would be fun to get a bunch of us out riding together.

ParticipantAlright!
Looks like I still don’t have to work for the second half of the day on 8/23. Anyone up for a ride? Should be able to leave DC around 11:30 or 12 and need to be at WFC by 5pm. Open to road ride, or maybe grinding some gravel out on the C&O for a while.

ParticipantHave to take the kid to the dentist at 12:30 that day, so I’m likely out.

yes both, but I haven’t had good luck not falling in the river on Holmes run. YMMV

Participantoxon hill is very rough with the road construction. But I ride it almost everyday. The people in cars really try to give me space.

Parts of Holmes Run are a bit tricky, but certainly rideable.
1) Crossing Holmes Run at North Ripley Street can sometimes be layered with sand or underwater.
2) The tunnel underneath 395 has lots of stones on the trail (washed up from the creek) and the concrete in places is badly cracked
3). West of North Beauregard, the trail crosses Holmes Run again. This crossing is almost always underwater and some of the trail leading up to the crossing is badly crackedEast from North Ripley the trail is in pretty good shape and you have an easy connection to the Eisenhower Bike Trail.

ParticipantAnyone up for a ride then?
I’ll be leaving from DC, and needing to end up in Falls Church, but I found a fun looking 40 mile route home that looks like it requires some wider (and possibly knobby) tireshttp://ridewithgps.com/routes/3167557
Also open to other ideas.

MB, DSK and I were going to ride on the early side tomorrow. Road stuff from Arlington… Email me if you’re interested.
