There are several parks with parking lots located along the W&OD in Arlington but I’m not sure how long you are allowed to park there. The closest to RT 50 would be at Carlin Springs. You could safely park in most of the neighborhoods near there as well.

Yeah, I’ve looked around. The parks all say no long-term parking. I think two hours is max.

Do some advance work. Scout out a neighborhood near the trail that wouldn’t take you long to drive to, yet isn’t close enough to the trail to have restrictive parking in place. The best spots are those alongside parks or open space so you’re not parking in front of someone’s house everyday and annoying them.

The WOD cuts through lots of Arlington neighborhoods. You should be able to park on street in those neighborhoods without a problem.

One suggestion: park on the street near bluemont park. http://goo.gl/maps/0ArUw You should be able to park along Manchester without a problem. Car will be out in the open. Visible and safe.

What about bike to a bus route, take bus in part-way, bike remainder? Or bus 1-way & bike home? (or the reverse). A friend who works downtown does this from the South Reston P&R.
