Does anybody commute to DHS / Nebraska avenue? I am considering a job change and wondering how easy/hard it would be to get there from Arlington. Looks pretty simple. Also, What kind of on campus bike facilities do they have: Bike room/lockup/showers and all that.

    Thanks!

I don’t know anything about the complex, but I have ridden to AU before from Arlington.
If you live down near Clarendon/Courthouse, etc, then you can ride into DC via Key Bridge. Someone else will need to help you with the best route that way.

I live farther out and take the Chain Bridge. Here is how I get from Chain Bridge up to Potomac Avenue (requires bike portage)

From there you can take some side roads or just go up to Loughboro/Nebraska and ride straight there.

Note that your commute will be U-shaped: down to the river and back up to DHS. Both ways. You will have hills.

I was on site nearly 10 years ago soon after DHS birth; it was previously Navy populated and there was a gym and shower; don’t know about bike facilities; if you don’t have contacts up there drop me a line at adam.x.piceno@ice.dhs.gov later and maybe I can help you

I bike from south of Alexandria to just east of there by a couple of blocks. I have no idea on their facilities, but getting to there isn’t too bad so long as you don’t mind hills. I don’t know the Chain Bridge route, but your Key Bridge route isn’t too bad through Georgetown. Since I’m a little east, I stay in Rock Creek Park and come up from behind at Connecticut Ave/Calvert St then behind the schools and Cathederal.

Good news. You can take mostly bike lanes all the way from the Key Bridge to the complex. Local folks recently fought for and got DDOT to install bike lanes on New Mexico Avenue, over the objections of many who live in the area. Enjoy your new commute.
