This is the same day as Kill Bill Century, so I won’t be able to be there in person. I’ll be there in spirit, though.

Like last year, we’ll have snacks and drinks for the riders. Greenbelt promises to make his giant chocolate chip oatmeal raisin walnut cookies. We’ll also have PB&J, and perhaps some Feed Zone portables or fried rice from the FZ cookbook. This was an absolutely awesome experience last year, so please consider joining the ride somewhere along the way. Alas, I have to man (woman) the shop so won’t be riding — Laurie

I plan to be at the ABCs of Family Biking that day, so I won’t make it, but I did it last year, and it was a lot of fun. Definitely recommend it if you can do it.

I tried to get them to change the route to go past the ABCs fest, but maybe we could meet up anyways? I suspect we’ll be getting to the Capitol reflecting pool area about 2:45pm. -Jeff

We’ll probably be heading straight home after ABCs – my younger daughter will need a nap.

I did this final leg last year and it was truly awesome to be involved with the biking community. I’m out of town this weekend but I encourage everyone to join the ride and/or support the group.

Good for them! I’ll happily throw in a few dollars, join the ride from Proteus to DC, and help with guiding.

We’ll also be at the ABCs of Family Biking. I think we’ll be at the Capitol to see the riders come in.

For those coming out on Sunday to meet the TRJOW cyclists and join the ride to DC, here are bike directions out to Proteus from DC:

From downtown DC:

-I take the Met Branch Trail to Monroe Street Bridge (bike lane)
-Left at 12th (sharrows) and right at Newton (bike route)
-Left at 18th, and right at Varnum (bike routes)
-Cross Eastern Ave and the road becomes Arundel Road (bike route, bumpy road — beware unmarked speedbumps)
-Jog one block to the right at 34th street (otherwise you’d be on a one-way Allison Street going the wrong way)
-Left at 38th Street, over the bridge, and right on the NW branch trail
-Cross Rhode Island at the crosswalk/trail alongside Armentrout Road
-Down the ramp and up the NE Branch Trail to Lake Artemesia
-Pick up the Paint Branch Trail at Lake Artemesia and go under the CSX track.
-Take the College Park Trolley Trail/Rhode Island Ave (bike lane, sort of) across University Blvd (not a pleasant intersection)
-Cross left to the outer road alongside Rhode Island
-Left on Erie Street up the hill to the bike shop (Route 1 at Erie)

Here’s a ride map from Capitol Hill to Proteus via this route (most direct, low traffic route, off main roads): http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2395080

And here’s what the route looks like (at least the last bit from the NE Branch trail):

Probably the easiest way to get out to the reception is to take the Green Line Metro (open to bikes on Sundays), and then ride over (about a mile):

OK, here’s a flyer that you’re welcome to pass around to bike shops, ride clubs etc.
