Awesome idea. A bit of shaming for the violators. I often see the Marymount shuttle parked on Fairfax in front of the Ballston metro blocking half the bike lane. Will have to take a pic next time.

Clark St. and Potomac Ave in Crystal City will make excellent fodder for this.

On the other hand, Crystal Dr. going south I’ve given up and almost always take the lane these days because so many cars and vans park all over the place in the bike lane it’s more or less unusable. BTW – if the bike sensors on the soutbound side of Crystal Dr. seem to have anomalously low bike counts it’s because of this fact. I never ride over those anymore and I doubt anyone else does either.

Is this going to lead to enforcement, or just public shaming?

It made not lead to enforcement on its own, but having photos is always helpful when discussing matters with the police department directly.

I will never get to work if I stop to take pictures of all the offenders, the bike lanes in Clarendon and Courthouse at 5:00 are parking lots for cabs, UPS, Fed-ex, beer trucks, lamas, horses, dragons…. you name it, it’s there!

You are required to photodocument all llamas and dragons in the bike lanes. I’m cool with you only muttering about the rest.

His Holiness can park in the bike lane without repercussions, but you should probably take the photo anyways.

I have complained numerous times–since the blockers are often right in front of the COURTHOUSE, I don’t get why they cannot enforce. Already had one shouting match with a Sysco jerk.

Excellent question. What good is there if the Police and meter patrol cannot handle the people within a block of the courthouse and police headquarters!

Although, as I think about these llamas and trucks… its no different than heading through Georgetown on K Street in the morning. The Do Not Park right lane is always parked in by delivery trucks.

BTW: I am officially adding this to the forum lexicon: Parking Llamas. With hats off to Dickie.

Well, it used to be worse! DC used to give discounts for delivery truck tickets…
