    Curious about this as well – I have an OnGuard Bulldog Mini that I almost never use anymore b/c it just feels so flimsy.

    This is the second or third Surly theft getting posted to the forums in the last few weeks – not good news.

    That’s the one I used with an extra cable. I’ve contacted the lock company to start that process. Fingers crossed.

    Aw, man, that sucks. Nothing worse than coming outside to find, well, nothing where something you spent time, attention, and $$ to build used to be. A nice ride, too, from the description – Brooks, VeloOrange, Soma, etc. Bet the thief doesn’t know what they have, but it should make it easier to “find.” Did you capture the bike serial# – remember, Surly puts it in a special place to make it easier to ID and recover (see Surly’s website for more details.) Also (and a shout-out on this goes to Kate C. aka @girlonabikedc, and an MPD officer) MPD makes it easier to check out the haul of what they recover, so you may be able to spot your bike that way – see https://secure.flickr.com/photos/mpd_evidencecontroldivision/sets/

    Ugh that’s the one I have. And I used to have a green Cross Check. Best of luck getting it back, or at least getting some relief from the lock company.

    Beautiful bike, I’m sorry. I sent you a PM, but I’d also recommend sending the photos to the folks at The Daily Rider bike shop, a couple blocks down H St. I think they’ve had some luck with unwitting thieves bringing bikes to their shop.

    I am getting so bummed about saying the same thing to new members who have had a bike stolen…”That Sucks”, in fact I just said it to a new member last week who had their Surly stolen as well. I wish I could offer you more than a condolence, but much of what I would say has already been covered by the great folks ahead of me. I will keep a look out for you missing steed, but regardless, welcome to the group and I hope you stick around once you are riding again. Best of luck with your investigation, and again I am sorry this happened.

    Sorry about your loss. Here’s hoping you recover it somehow…

    On a happier note, welcome to the forum. This is a great place to read and type about bike things. Hopefully, you’ll stick around.

    And if you don’t mind, I’m curious to hear how things go with On Guard and your insurance. My husband had a bike stolen, and we had Metlife homeowners insurance at the time. They replaced it with the current year’s model (it was a racing bike), and replaced all of the components he upgraded as well, which meant, in the end, we had more parts that we had lost. A big hassle, and he still felt violated, but oddly enough, we came out ahead in the end. I know you won’t be done with the process for a while, but when you’d are, if you can share the experience, I’d appreciate it. (I’m also considering switching away from our current insurer)
