Seeing as how it’s lunch time and I’m eating a tasty slice of Vace pizza right now, I wanted to ask whether people have any tips, tricks or foolproof ways to carry a pizza on your bike. It’s not something that I regularly see, and as someone who regularly likes to do errands by bike, it’s funny that when it comes to picking up pizza I always walk or take the car. And I’m talking large pizzas here, 16-20″.
I have a standard rear rack, and I’ve used bungee cords to strap down things like a tent to the top of it before. That may work but I’m also really scared of being the guy who just spent $20 on a great pizza, have it spill all over the road, and isn’t ashamed enough to not eat it off the road, dirt and all.
Primary example – I’d love to order a humongous 20″ pizza from the Italian store in Arlington, and ride it back home via the Custis/MVT to home in Crystal City. It’s so convenient to the trail, I hate having to drive there for only pizza.
