How about special categories for night/rain/snow/fog speeding? Also, nice juxtaposition(s) of the speed sign between two upcoming crosswalk signs (because the last thing a pedestrian/cyclist wants to be thinking about when attempting to cross the GWMP is traffic speeding at 52+ mph ;))!

P.S. – The speed limit is 40 mph there, right?

Well, we could slow down the cars, or we could tell pedestrians to wear reflective vests. The right choice is obvious, just ask AAA or police in PG or Loudon.

I’d like to propose we take a few moments on our rides to photo-document the use of the GWMP by our fellow travelers.

    Rules are simple.

Photograph the fastest speed documented on the GWMP speed sign between the 14th St and Memorial Bridge.

No photo? – It didn’t happen.

No idea what we will do with these photos. I would expect the bloggers might have fun with it however.

I’ll come up with some meaningless prize. How about we close the contest on April Fool’s Day?

    My entry below.

No no, Steve. that was the speed of the Orange Cone directly in front of the sign. :p

The orange cones are hilarious. I assume that the expectation is that someone might not see the enormous, reflective, lighted sign, but will swerve at the last minute due to the cones? (Except for the one that died.)

I like the whole idea that if someone is 10 feet up into the grass, they still have enough control over their car to avoid the orange cones.

Brillant photo showing the insanity of having an at grade crosswalk where cars are going 52 miles an hour. Sigh.

The signs are located to warn within the stopping distance if the motorist was paying attention and traveling at the posted speeds. When speeding, the motorist might not be able to stop when they pass the warning rumble strips and signs.

Methinks I shall be rewarded for continuing to avoid that crosswalk.
