ParticipantSome good general reading we’ve put together:

ParticipantI’d like to try to avoid some of the madness around 16th & I, and my route is easier (from the CCT) if I come down along Rock Creek Trail by the Kennedy Center and then along Ohio Drive – like this. I’m a bit worried that police enforcement of street closures/no-riding zones will be haphazard and inconsistent, but I figure I’ll get as close as I reasonably can from the south side and lock up. As long as it doesn’t get much colder than the forecasted 35, then I’ll plan to put the little one in the trailer and ride with her. It would be nice to do the Penn Ave. parade, but IIRC, you have to get there really early and I dont think she’d last quite that long stuck in the same place.

ParticipantI rode 4 years ago and it was pretty crazy. I got here when the WABA Valet Parking opened, left my bike and stared hiking to get to my office (Reagan Building). It took me 1 hour 45 minutes to get to the office and through security.
The challenging part is getting from north of the parade route to south of it, or the other way around. Going around takes a long, long time because lots of people have the same idea… that it would be better to see on the other side. Going through the parade route was not possible.
Honestly, I’m gonna sit this one out.

Want to go for a bike ride instead?
Maybe. Might go play on the mountain bike for a few hours.

ParticipantWe Rode down last time from the WOD>Custis>MVT and then over Memorial bridge. We locked our bikes up near the Lincoln Memorial and walked the rest of the day. It was dead simple for us.
I may sit this years out too, but more due to the fact that I’m a wimp more than anything else.

ParticipantPersonally I recommend CUSTIS > WOD (keep going west to you hit Purcellville). Probably one of the best vantage points (if you see me out there hiking with the dogs, waive hi)

ParticipantGood luck to all of you. I do not plan to go anywhere south of Florida Ave on Monday. I was 6 flights up and 40 feet away when they got out of the limo to walk the last bit of the parade in 2008 – I’ll consider returning to an Inauguration in 2016 (depends who we elect).

ParticipantThanks for the great info. I got a volunteer job for the inauguration and need to report at 7th and D SW at 5:00 a.m. I would love to ride in with others in like situation. FYI, we were told that sufficient bike racks will be installed on the south side of the mall, but I feel dubious about that. If anyone can confirm I would appreciate it.

My wife and I road 4 years ago. It was so awesome to ride down closed bridges and the GW Parkway. Once we get into town we locked up a good distance from the crowds and walked. It worked out. Freezing cold though.

ParticipantI worked delivering coffee donuts, box lunches to volunteers staffing two bike valet stations. This is a report I posted http://www.epicski.com/t/79342/d-c-1-20-09
It is not hard to get from north to south or vice versa if you go around the west side. 23rd street.

Where are you riding in from? If you have a u-lock, a parking meter makes a great bike rack. You should be able to find a secure place to park.
