ParticipantUnfortunate head placement in that second photo, Ann….Pete has a similar photo from that same location.
And just 4.2 more miles would have gotten you a double metric century!

Love it, I definitely have to take the same photo. Maybe even start a new thread.

ParticipantSo the big question is, how was getting out of bed the next day????
Congrats on your epic achievement.
Can any men out there juggle childcare responsibilities and a century plus?!

There have been many, many photos at that location. The original is the best, since the friend we had pose in the photo had NO idea why we were asking her to stand where she was. The noise (and food) that came out her mouth when she saw the final photo were priceless memories that I’ll treasure for ever.
One of the other great photos also includes a rare shot of Aaron wearing a helmet.
Enough silliness. Truly amazing and inspirational ride!!!! You both rock!

I once rode a century during daycare hours, picked the baby up with the trailer afterwards, rode down to Crystal City, converted the trailer to a jogging stroller to run a Crystal City 5K (beating half the people there) and then rode home with the baby. Does I get points for that?

Next time the two of you decide to do another epic ride, give us a head up, and we’ll keep you fueled with some decent cappuccinos

I had to walk my dog after riding the Civil War Century. He’s three, so I’m just going to say it’s basically the same thing.

Yes, men can do lots of things in the 21st century. We’ve come a long way. Unfortunately, some people insist on holding dearly to their antiquated, sexist notions that men should remain behind their desks, that they simply don’t have the requisite multi-tasking ability to pick a kid up from school or go to soccer practice.

ParticipantOf course they do. Eminva and I were panting and talking yesterday about the forum folks who disappear from riding on the weekends because they’ve got small kids to care for. And, there are additional obstacles to riding for women who have little kids at home.
I remember what it was like bringing a baby home from the hospital and for the next few months the highlight of my existence was taking a shower.
There are times when the people in your life require almost every bit of attention you can muster whether that means elderly, frail parents or grubby little kids. Life happens.

ParticipantThanks for the great ride, picnic, champagne and write up, Ann, and thanks for the well wishes, everyone!
Here is a picture I took, out by a few people’s favorite restaurant (but this was at about 8:30 a.m.):
I hope this might get people thinking about how you can push yourself a little, make time around the other obligations in your life, have fun and not take yourself too seriously.

Okay, I know you are a newlywed, and I have no idea if you and your wife ever hope to expand your family, but just in case, I’m clipping and saving that one to tuck into the baby card. Ha ha ha!

ParticipantHow did you guess Liz? I’ve always wanted a picture of my a**. Next time, I’m taking away the camera.

Sooo… what you’re saying is that the baby crossed the finish line first?

I hear ya. Today, my division was taking a picture (for posterity or something — last one was about a decade ago). I got in a shower this morning, got all dressed up and… got covered in spit up right when I’d have to leave. So I missed it. But it was better than last Sunday, when we went to a mini-party at a friend’s house. Literally as soon as I sat down with the little guy on my lap, I felt a wetness spread slowly but unmistakenly across my lap. With boys, you have to make sure everything’s in the right place, or it’s like no diaper at all. We’re still learning that. Luckily, we had an extra outfit for him in the diaper bag. I was not so lucky.
Anyway, miss you guys. And biking.
